What's In My Beach Bag

It's beach season, yay! I'm a lucky girl: I live four blocks from the beach, so I get to go on a regular basis year round, so I thought I'd share my beach bag packing expertise, since, at this point, I have it down to a science! My latest addition to my bag is my SandCloud towel- the guys behind the towel just started a Kickstarter campaign, and were nice enough to send me one to try out! The thing that makes this thin Turkish-style towel different is that is has a pillow at the top! Totally ingenious, and makes my favorite beach activity, reading, so much more comfortable! I love that the terry cloth-free towel shakes off easily, meaning less sand in my car and home, too. You can purchase one of the towels through their Kickstarter here

I'm fastidious about sun protection every day, but especially at the beach, so an oversize hat, my new favorite Ray-Ban sunglasses, and high SPF sunscreen are key. (This Neutrogena version is the best I've found, since it dries quickly, isn't greasy, and has never made me break out.) Just remember, you should apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before you head into the sun, and at least every two hours after that, more frequently if you're swimming. Obviously, my usual bikini goes on before I head to the sand, too! While I love a wide range of books, the beach is the perfect place to catch up on some good old-fashioned chick lit, and right now I'm loving Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes. I pack up all of these goodies in my Kate Spade Saturday tote, which is unfortunately sold out, but I love this version, too!

What's in your beach bag?

Disclosure: The SandCloud towel and Kate Spade tote were both gifted items from the companies.

What I Wore: The Home T Tank

jacket: gap | jeans: gap | glasses: ray-ban | tank: the home t

Brett and I have lived in California now for about nine months, and it officially feels like home. To celebrate my new home state, my buddy Ryan sent me one of The Home T's brand new tanks! I love the relaxed fit (definitely size down!), super soft fabric, and the fact that all of The Home T products are made in the USA and a portion of proceeds benefits multiple sclerosis research!

Different Ways to Wear a Headband

different ways to wear a headband

Hi everyone! If you've been reading for a while, you may know that I'm not exactly the best when it comes to doing my own hair, but I'm trying to branch out, so when France Luxe sent over this gorgeous Borgia headband for me to style three different ways, I was super excited, but slightly nervous, too!

With that out of the way, these are three ways to wear a headband that are foolproof, because trust me, if I can make it work, so can you!

For the first look, I decided to go with something that would be ideal for days when you need your hair to look nice, say for a cocktail party or dinner date, but don't want to bother washing or heat styling it! Starting with dirty hair (use volumizing products on it the day before, if possible), pull the headband to about an inch back from your hairline. Using hairspray and a comb, backcomb your hair at the crown to give height, secure with a ponytail holder at the nape of the neck, and form a bun! It took less than five minutes, but looks great!

When I pulled the head wrap out of the package, my first thought was that it was basically jewelry for your hair, so I decided to go with that idea, and wear the head wrap as a necklace! I think it's equally gorgeous in hair as it is around the neck, and no one will be the wise that your necklace is a headband pulling double-duty!

For the final look, I kept things super simple. I used a curling iron to add a bit of wave to my hair, pulled the band on, and pulled the front pieces of my hair through to soften things up a bit.

So, are you a headband wearer? I think I'm officially converted now!

While I love a brightly-decorated home in theory, for my own home, I want a place that's soothing and calm to spend time in. I absolutely adore this Manhattan apartment that was featured in Elle Decor for that reason- it's peaceful, but not boring, and perfect in every way!

Frends X BaubleBar

Fashion collabs are a dime a dozen these days, so it takes a lot to catch my eye, and Frends X BaubleBar certainly did just that! The stylish headphone brand teamed up with my go-to for pretty sparklies, and the resulting collab (earphones with a matching set of earrings) is pretty fantastic. Glossybox Review

In case you haven't heard, Glossybox is a monthly subscription service that sends you 5 deluxe samples of luxury beauty products each month for $21. Glossybox was kind enough to send me June's patriotic-themed box for review! In addition to the products listed below, June's box included a "mystery" gift card (the amount wasn't on the card, but could be worth up to $500) to one of my favorite stores, C.Wonder. (In case you're wondering, my card was worth $10!) Read on for my thoughts on this month's products:

Natural ultra-rich creamy body butter enriched with plant emollients, herbal extracts and vitamins to provide relief from dry, rough skin. The natural antioxidant benefits of vitamin E provide protection to your skin while shea nut butter gives long-lasting hydration. Drift away on a cool breeze of delicate jasmine and aromatic rosemary blended with lavender, bergamot, ylang-ylang, oakmoss, patchouli and fir. Inspired by Patagonia’s snow-capped mountains and blue lagoons, this fresh scent inspires a soothing sense of calm.
My thoughts: This body butter was ultra-hydrating, and I loved that the light scent wasn't overpowering.

Transforming the color of your nails is in the palm of your hand, pocket, bag and countless other places. Create an effortless moment and restyle your nail color any time and anywhere. STRANGEBEAUTIFUL COLORBLOCs are outstanding for travel and splendid to hold. Comprised of two 4ml bottles of super saturated compelling colors encased in an efficient geometric design.
My thoughts: This was a custom ColorBloc for Glossybox, and I loved that you could have the perfect patriotic mani in one bottle!

Radiant Color + Easy Application + Crease-Resistance Oh, so easy... An eye shadow pencil that also doubles to create smokey eye accents! Deliver a daily dose of color in a snap without fear of smearing or smudging. Designed to apply as smooth as silk allowing you to enhance and accentuate your eyes with the ease and precision of a pencil.
My thoughts: I loved this product! It's the perfect pinkish champagne hue, in the easiest-ever delivery system, perfect for all of your summer travels!

Providing definitive relief, Imperial Repair Hand Therapy is specifically formulated to restore, soften and soothe your hands to optimal wellbeing. Richly crafted with glycerin, sweet almond oil, grape seed oil and our signature herbal complex. Travel size. Paraben free, Phenoxyethanol free, Dye free, and Gluten free. No animal by-products or animal testing. Made in America.
My thoughts: While I loved the formula of this lotion, I wasn't crazy about the scent, but I'm also super, super picky about scented beauty products, so many others may love it! I do wish that Glossybox had only included one lotion in this month's box, however.

Great style starts with a great cut. But it needs a texturing hairspray to show off its killer shape. Like an instant volumizer, it injects fullness and natural movement with a few quick bursts. Spray, sway and stun. That’s how RUSK® Texture Spray rolls.
My thoughts: This product immediately added volume and texture (duh) to my mane. I think it would be the perfect product to use with a curling iron for loose waves, or to achieve "big hair" before a night out!
