What I Wore: Hippie Chic

The only thing better than a double date with old (and new!) friends is a triple date, right? Brett and I met some fantastic friends of ours down at Stone Brewery for dinner. If you're ever in the San Diego-ish area, I'd highly recommend it- great wine (and beer, per Brett!), yummy food, and a gorgeous setting.

Cinco de Mayo Dresses

Cinco de Mayo is just a week away, and I feel like stores are currently flooded with frocks that would be perfect for the occasion (and for wearing the rest of the summer!). I picked a few of my favorite easy, breezy dresses that are ideal for sipping margs (and let's be real, eating copious amounts of chips and guac) on patios. Click through the slideshow to see them all!

What I Wore: Tribal Print Headband

dress: madewell | headwrap: france luxe (gifted) | belt: target | shoes: bp nordstrom

I've mentioned before that I'm not exactly the most adventurous or talented when it comes to styling my hair, but in an attempt to branch out, I've been experimenting with this little headband that France Luxe sweetly sent me. The verdict? I love it! It adds a little extra something to my outfit, takes about thirty seconds to put on, and is perfect for hiding the dreaded "ponytail mark" that often makes an appearance on my mane. I'm on strict orders from my hairstylist (highly recommend Tera, Newport friends!) to wash my hair less, and the band also does a great job concealing less-than-fresh roots, to boot.

Warby Parker 'Lyle' Review

warby parker 'lyle' glasses (gifted) | gap denim jacket | kittson white lace dress | gap belt | express booties | la mer wrap watch (gifted) | kluster shop bracelet (gifted) | outrage fashion bracelet (gifted)

They're here! They're here! My Warby Parker glasses that I picked out after my home try-on arrived a few days ago, and I'm crazy about them! I went with the Lyle in plum marblewood, which have a subtle purple tint, which I adore. They add a fun pop of color, and are totally different from any frames I've had before. The ordering process was super-simple, and my glasses arrived very quickly. The lenses are high quality, and super thin, even though I'm blind as a bat, and I really couldn't be happier with them. I'd highly recommend Warby Parker if you're looking for prescription eyeglasses- for $95 (frames and lenses!) they can't be beat, plus, for every order, they donate a pair of glasses to someone in need.

Disclosure: Warby Parker provided me with a pair of their glasses in exchange for a review, but all opinions are my own, and I'd never recommend a product I wouldn't buy again myself! Thank you for supporting the brands that support best of BKLYN!

Loving Right Now

A few things I'm loving right now:

It's almost swimsuit season (eek, right?!) and I'm loving this affordable orange twist-top bikini from Target. (If you're a little shy, try the black version!) The best part? You can mix and match sizes on top and bottom!

Kilim pillows and rugs are my latest obsession, and I think this kilim pillow is a pretty stellar example of the print. (If you're not a One King's Lane member, click here for an invite! It's a home decor flash sale site, and my new favorite spot for scoring fantastic deals on gorgeous, unique home goods!)

I'm enamored by these beautiful brass bookends (say that three times fast!) in the shapes of pineapples! Fun fact: did you know pineapples symbolize hospitality?

How fab is this crest-shaped mirror? I love the antique effect, and it would be perfect in an entryway or bathroom!

I was gifted this Bliss Fabulips Pout-o-Matic Lip Perfecting System during Lucky Fabb, and have been using it a couple of times a week since! It's kind of like a Clarisonic, but for your lips. You pair it with the enclosed scrub (which smells, and tastes, really great!), and it's completely eliminated any dry flakes from my pout. It's definitely a must if you love bright or matte lipstick, because it perfectly preps your lips for color.

This statement necklace would be the best addition to just about any spring outfit!

I'm so excited it's almost peony season! While the gorgeous flowers are only in bloom for a short time this year, this incredibly life-like faux peonies arrangement is a pretty darn close replica for the real deal!

Last night, I was browsing Domino, and came across designer Lauren Liess' gorgeous modern family home spread in the online edition of the magazine. Lauren took a totally dated, dark abode, and completely renovated it to be the beautiful, light, airy, family-friendly home you see above. Talk about impressive! How to Get Your Feet Ready for Summer Sandals

diy pedicure essentials

It's that time of year again! Everywhere I look, I see adorable summer sandals for sale, which means it's time to whip your feet into sandal shape. Since I've lived in climates that are conducive to sandal wearing for six months of the year the majority of my life, I've learned a thing or two about keeping feet sandal smooth! Here are a few of my favorite products for a DIY pedicure.

H20 Body 24 Hour Hydrator: This lotion can be used on your entire body, but it's especially moisturizing, which makes it great for dry feet. For extra moisturizing power, slather some on at night, and sleep with socks on.

Sally Hansen Cuticle Remover: This product is a workhorse. It makes your cuticles easy to push back and/or trim in 60 seconds or less!

Cuticle Trimmer: Chances are, your cuticles could use a little TLC after a winter spent in socks. After giving your feet a good soak and using the cuticle gel, gently push back your cuticles. If you have a lot of excess cuticle skin, you can gently (and carefully!) trim it with the metal end of this tool.

Emoji Micro Pedi Nano: This little miracle worker makes getting rid of stubborn calluses and dry skin a breeze. It's battery operated, and it just takes a few swipes over dry spots to remove any dead skin.

Olive Oil and Brown Sugar Foot Scrub: I've tried pricey foot scrubs in the past, but I always come back to a DIY recipe to polish my feet. Mix olive oil and brown sugar together to form a paste, and use it to scrub skin. The sugar exfoliates, and the oil moisturizes.

What are your tips and tricks to keep your feet sandal ready?

Disclosure: the Emoji Micro Pedi Nano and the H20 lotion were samples provided to me for review purposes, but all of the opinions here are my own. Thank you for supporting the businesses that support best of BKLYN!

Loving Right Now

After shooting my Easter brunch set-up last week, I've had spring and summer entertaining on the brain, and I'm obsessing over C.Wonder's current offerings, especially their pink and orange ikat napkins and the gold-flecked cork chargers

When I was in Scottsdale last month, I left my hair products at home and borrowed my mom's instead, which led me to a product discovery. Bumble and Bumble's thickening hairspray isn't your typical hairspray- it's used on the roots of wet hair only, but it gives me great volume, while repelling the intense seaside town humidity that I've been battling since our move. It's quickly become a beauty staple.

It seems like everyone has a strong opinion on Kate Middleton's (ahem, the Duchess of Cambridge's) Stuart Weitzman Corkswoon wedges, and I'm decidedly in the "love" camp. I mean, I'll take any help I can get in the height department, and these babies have some serious leg-lengthening power.

With Easter a few days away, I'm smitten with these statement earrings that are reminiscent of Easter eggs.

I went to pull on my favorite "boyfriend" style jeans last weekend, and the distressing on them has gotten just a bit too, well, distressed. This pair from Gap would make the perfect replacement.

Finally, I'm in love with Madewell's new Crosshatch Ikat print, but love it especially in this skirt and in this adorable dress. Both would be ideal for outdoor spring brunches.

Happy Monday! Hope you had a fantastic weekend! Mine was filled with lots of relaxing time with Brett and Bogey, seeing some of our closest friends, and a double date on Sunday night, which is when I wore this outfit. It was perfect for dinner at the House of Big Fish and Ice Cold Beer, which, strange name aside, is an absolutely fantastic restaurant in Laguna- if you're ever in the area, you must go!

What I Wore: Parker Dress

Last weekend, I had the exciting opportunity to attend Lucky Magazine's blogging conference, Lucky Fabb, in Beverly Hills! It was a jam-packed day and a half, and I had a blast learning, talking to some fantastic brand reps, and meeting new blogging buddies like Tera and Nohea

Loving Right Now

This week's loving right now might give you a little insight to the weather we've been having in Newport Beach! I'm fully embracing the warmth and sunshine, and I'm pretty sure if any of these items actually lived in my closet, I'd be wearing them non-stop for the next 4 months. From a perfectly patterned cami, to a poppy-hued peplum top, to ideally destroyed boyfriend-style cut-offs, Madewell never fails me. I spotted this adorable floral romper on Julia's blog, and am cursing the fact it's currently sold out! I'm in desperate need of some flat sandals that are both comfy and cute, and these could definitely fit the bill. Spring and summer call for lots of crisp white, and I'm digging this white skort situation, and Kate Spade's novelty bags never fail to make me smile!

Easter Brunch Decorations with Minted

decorations: minted | bar cart: vintage | chairs: overstock

I know it's hard to believe, but Easter 2014 is in just 11 days, on April 20th! When we married, Brett and I began the tradition of attending Easter services at our church, and then hosting a brunch for our friends, since we don't live near our immediate families. We've been blessed to make fantastic friends here in Newport Beach, and I'm so excited to have them all over for a big brunch.

This year, I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do for Easter brunch decorations, but I did know that I wanted to have the meal outside in our garden! I reached out to Minted, and they offered to set me up with one of their party decor packages, which made my planning SO much easier. Basically, you can pick and customize signs, banners, and more, add extras like table confetti, wine/champagne glass ID tags, striped straws (complete with flags!), and the like. It arrives to your doorstep, and you simply assemble the bunting banner, add a couple of simple floral arrangements and put together a menu! It's a super easy way to impress all your guests without spending a ton of time. The party packages are great for other celebrations, too- last year, I threw a baby shower for a dear friend and used Minted decor, and I think it'd be perfect for birthdays and more, too! You can see all of Minted's party decorations here, and the set I used was "Fractions."
