What I Wore: Rugby Dress

I love this dress I picked up (on sale!) at Gap. It's the perfect mix of form and function, since it's comfortable and the high-low hem is flattering and fun! I wore it two days last week, including on my quick Scottsdale trip to see one of my cousins get married!

Crest 3D White White Strips Professional Effects Luxe Review

While most of  us, myself included, aren't ever going to have the chance to walk the red carpet at an awards show, we all do have our own sort of red carpet moments in life! Last night was one of mine- one of my cousins got married, and I wanted to look and feel my best! I've long held the belief that looking (and feeling!) great doesn't need to cost a fortune, and that the best accessory is one that money can't buy: a confident smile!

While you can't buy confidence, you can buy Crest 3D Whitestrips Professional Effects Luxe, and that's the next best thing! I used the strips daily for five days, and my teeth haven't looked this white in years! I'm planning to save some of the strips in my box to use while I get (real life!) red-carpet ready in the future, so I can always have sparkling teeth.

These strips really are amazing: they remove up to 14 years of stains (that's a lot of Diet Coke!) and you only have to wear them for 30 minutes each day. They stay put on your teeth, are tasteless, and aren't gooey at all!

Whenever I get dressed up, my go-to beauty look usually involves a pale champagne shadow, a liquid liner cat eye, and curled lashes with loads of my all-time favorite mascara.  If I'm feeling a little extra sparkly, I add a touch of this highlighting cream just above my cheekbones, in the corners of my eyes, and on my cupid's bow, above my lips. I love completing my look with a bold lip, which makes white teeth a necessity!

A couple more #SmileStyle tips
To keep your smile white (and that bold lip intact) at the event, avoid dark liquids, like red wine or dark soda!
When selecting lipstick, pick one with a slightly blue or cool undertone, instead of a shade with an orange undertone. The cool undertone will make your teeth appear even whiter!

Loving Right Now

Happy Thursday! This week's Loving Right Now post is full of things I've been ogling online. Three perfect tops- peach scallops, a light tribal-print sweater, and a flattering drapey twist on the plain white shirt. I also love this steal of a white and gold end table, from Target of all places! One King's Lane is having a killer outdoor sale right now (click here for an invite code!), and this striped insulated tote is ideal for spring picnics, since you can keep food cold without looking like you're toting a cooler. This black and white patterned pillow would be ideal on a bold-colored chair. Urban Decay's Naked palette isn't new (and they've actually added two more iterations!) but is filled with every neutral shadow you'll ever need. Lastly, these Sam Edelman booties would make the best transitional shoe for spring- I purchased a pair with a slightly higher heel, and I've been wearing them non-stop since, and I kind of want a flat pair, too! You can click on each item in the collage above to shop.

The BEST DIY Face Mask with Lemon Juice and Baking Soda

face mask recipe get rid of blackheads with baking soda and lemon juice

I recently started whipping up this homemade face mask recipe, and it's the best combination I've tried. With just two ingredients, baking soda and lemon juice, this DIY mask has purged my pores of blackheads, brightened my skin,  faded spots, and just made my whole face look SO much better! I can't recommend it enough. Just mix the baking soda and lemon juice into a paste, and apply it to your face. If the paste is too runny, add a little extra baking soda, or extra lemon juice if it's not thin enough.

Leave it on your face for about 15 minutes (careful, it starts to flake off towards the end!) and then get a little extra boost of exfoliation by scrubbing the mixture into your skin, before rinsing off.

The Best Over the Counter Acne Spot Treatments

mario badescu drying lotion vs buffering lotion

Up until the last six months or so, I had been incredibly lucky to have perfectly acne-free skin. Since I'm now ancient at 26, I thought I'd somehow successfully escaped acne entirely, thinking that it was something that just adolescents deal with. Well, I was unfortunately very, very wrong! After thinking logically through what could be causing my skin to have a hissy fit, I'm pretty sure it's a combination of California's air, working up a sweat at Pure Barre much more frequently, and not being as diligent about avoiding dairy and my other food sensitivities as diligently. All of that said, I firmly believe that I need to attack my skin problems from the inside as well as the outside! I'm working on cleaning up my diet, and swiping my skin with an astringent soaked cotton ball before I leave Pure Barre.

I've had the pleasure of having a combo of whiteheads and deep, painful, cystic acne, and I quickly learned that what may work for one kind of pimple may not work for the other. Enter Mario Badescu. I'd heard great things about his skincare, and during one terribly broken-out week, I broke down and bought both the buffering and drying lotions.

The Mario Badescu Drying Lotion is specifically for clearing up whiteheads, and I apply it with a q-tip to spots in the evenings before bed. When I wake up, the blemishes are much smaller, if not gone completely! The formula dries everything right up, and soothes redness, to boot, and I've found it's particularly perfect for the dreaded back acne!

While I love the drying lotion, it's not formulated to get rid of those super painful "buried" pimples, which is where the Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion comes in! I shake the bottle up, and apply a small amount with my fingers at night, and sometimes, if a blemish is particularly bad, I apply a bit under my makeup in the morning, too. Every time I've used this powerful potion, my cystic acne is cleared up n a matter of a couple of days, versus a couple of weeks. It's like liquid magic!

Now that I've spilled my secrets with you, tell me: what products and habits help you keep your skin clear?

PS- check back later today for the best DIY face mask I've ever tried!

Karlie Kloss' Nate Berkus-Designed Apartment

I've always loved seeing peeks into people's homes, but it's rare I love everything about a home. Vogue just published supermodel Karlie Kloss' gorgeous West Village apartment home, and it's certainly the exception to my usual "I love everything but XYZ," feelings about others' homes. I'd happily move into Karlie's pad ASAP. Kloss worked with interior designer extraordinaire Nate Berkus, and I'm smitten with the results. I feel like she has the perfect mix of interesting tchotchkes without without seeming cluttered, and the apartment just seems perfectly unique and collected instead of overly-designed and forced. You can see more photos (and read a great interview with Karlie!) on Vogue's website.

Gluten-Free Blackberry Cobbler for One Recipe

individual cobbler recipe

I don't know about you, but sometimes when I'm craving something sweet, I don't want a full batch of treats in the house. When a craving hits, I love mixing up one of these individual cobblers made in a six-ounce ramekin. It hits the spot every time! (If you want to be a little extra-decadent, top with ice cream!)

1 six-ounce ramekin
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons almond flour
2 tablespoons (gluten-free) rolled oats
2 tablespoons brown rice flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1.5 tablespoons white sugar
2 dashes cinnamon
Around 15 large blackberries (This is also great with apples or any berry- if you're using smaller berries, just fill the ramekin about halfway. Frozen berries are great, too- just defrost and drain first to avoid watery cobbler!)

Place berries in an oven safe dish/ramekin. In a small microwaveable bowl, melt the butter. Mix other ingredients into butter, and top berries. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.

Aliza Licht DKNY PR Girl at Home

I've been reading Aliza Licht's musings as @DKNY on Twitter for the last few years, and I've always found her witty, inspiring, and stylish, natch. When she tweeted about a special shoot she did with Elle Decor in her home, I expected it to be good, but girls, it is GOOD. I'm in love with her super-modern home, her gorgeous DKNY Lenox china, the rest of her tableware, her bar cart, and everything else featured in the shoot. You can see more images here, and shop Donna Karan china here.

P.S.- Aliza's Scandal tweets are amazing, and the show sent her those custom-engraved Scandal catchphrase wine glasses!

Loving Right Now

This week's Loving Right Now includes the best drugstore deep conditioner I've ever tried (I'm way overdue for a hair cut!), a necklace hook that feeds my octopus obsession (from Young House Love's collab with Target!), a pretty pillow, brass gem-shaped knickknacks, a lucite tray that's begging to be used all spring long, gold monogrammed stationery, and earrings in one of my favorite color schemes. Last but certainly not least, if you're not reading Jen Lancaster's books, you should be! They're uproariously funny, and the Tao of Martha is my current favorite.

Oh Joy! for Target

From an adorable ice bucket to great garlands to pretty paper products, Joy and Target have you covered. And the best part? It's super affordable! You can shop the full collection here, click any item above in the collage, or shop more of my favorite picks from the collaboration below. What I Wore: Pale Pink Polka Dots (say that five times fast!)

jeans: gap (similar) | shoes: express (similar) |  top: american eagle (similar) | bag: michael kors  watch: michael kors | hair bobbi: ban.do

I hope you had a great weekend! Mine was pretty low key, with lots of resting, but Brett and I met some friends out for a casual dinner, and this is what I wore- I feel like it's the first really "spring-y" thing I've worn so far this season, and now I'm itching to bring out all of my favorites. Have a wonderful week!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday! I've had a rough couple of days with back pain, so no super-fun fashion post today for you, unfortunately! I'm sorry! To make up for that, you get a picture of the ever-adorable Bogey, who's been cheering me up a lot! Hope you have a fantastic weekend- I'll be back Monday with our regularly scheduled programming.

Spring Dresses Under $100

I can't believe we're already almost halfway through March! I don't know about you, but springtime for me usually equals brunches, wedding/baby showers, and lots of time spent outdoors. It's definitely one of my favorite times of year, and I find myself reaching for pretty dresses over and over again. I've rounded up 25 of my favorite spring dresses under $100 that will have you covered for the season, without breaking the bank. Click through the slideshow to see them all!

Over the last couple of weeks, I've noticed Michelle Armas' work popping up on Instagram and a few blogs I love, and I wanted to share her bright, cheery work here! I love her bold use of color, and the abstract art she produces is mesmerizing. You can buy her original pieces and prints on her website.

Last Week, According to My Instagram

Last week was the best. My family was in town for the week to visit, and we had so much fun! My parents were a huge help around the house, assembling our new dining chairs, hanging curtains in our bedroom, and even helping around the garden. Don't worry, though, I didn't work them all week! We ate lots of yummy food, rented a boat to sail around the harbor, got our nails done, and took Bogey and his BFF Zapps on a few walks! I miss them already!

Loving Right Now

(click any of the above items to shop!)

This week's list is full of things I've purchased and absolutely adore alongside pretty pieces I'm currently coveting.

The top row: I bought this basket to corral our extra shoes, and it's been a sanity-saver with a puppy who lives for flip-flops.

Seche Vite is hands-down the best quick dry nail topcoat I've ever tried, Morrocanoil's treatment is helping me tame my frizzy tresses in our little beachside town, and Mario Badescu's buffering lotion is a skin savior when it comes to deep, cystic acne. I applied the treatment overnight, and in the morning, my spot was significantly reduced, and completely gone in three days!

I'm determined that this will be the year I purchase white denim, and while this Paige pair is gorgeous, I'm leaning towards this super-budget friendly pair (on sale for $19!) because I tend to be a little bit accident prone.

I've long loved stripes, and this pair of pumps is adorable, and only $29!

I'm a sucker for anything in a bright pink hue, and this clutch is no exception.

Finally, Bauble Bar just restocked this lariat necklace- nab yours before they sell out again!

What I Wore: Stars and Spots

jeans: gap | sweater: heavenly boutique | shoes: nine west

My family is in town visiting from Arizona this week, and I've had a blast hanging out with them. I spent yesterday shopping with my mom, and wore this (I subbed the heels for leopard flats while we were out and about) all day.

Stripes and Sequins x Matt Bernson

One of my very favorite bloggers, Grace Atwood from Stripes and Sequins, just did a swoon-worthy collaboration with shoe designer Matt Bernson! The result: the most perfect striped, sequined, and polka-dotted ballet flats ever. They're the ideal alternative to heels: still fancy, but comfortable, and will elevate any outfit they're paired with. Congratulations, Grace! Shop the collection below:

Ahh, the Academy Awards. The penultimate Hollywood awards ceremony always provides the best red carpet looks, and this year's event did not disappoint. Honestly, I think this year's ceremony produced the best field of dresses we've seen in a long while, and I had a hard time picking my favorite from my top ten shown above. After some careful deliberation, the best of BKLYN best-dressed award goes to (drumroll, please!) Kate Hudson with a killer cape, and my runner-up would be Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong'o in heavenly pale blue Prada.

Who was your best dressed starlet on last night's carpet?
