Deck the Halls: Ornaments

Thanks to my mom, grandma, and an assortment of other friends and relatives, I have an absurdly large (or so I'm told) collection of Christmas ornaments for someone my age. That said, I can't help but pick up a couple each year, but I do try to be pretty selective these days. For an ornament to get added to my collection, it has to be very special, unique, or commemorative of an event/experience from that year. These are a few of my favorites that I've spied this season!

Black Friday

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving! Can you believe it's already here? It's my favorite holiday, and I can't wait.  And we all know what comes after Thanksgiving, right? Black Friday sales! It seems Black Friday gets crazier year after year, and because there are SO many sales going on, I thought I'd give you a heads up, as well as a few of my sale picks from my favorite stores! Be sure to check out the dates for each sale- some have already started if you want to get an extra-early jump start! And be sure to check back Monday for the Best of BKLYN guide to Cyber Monday shopping!

I will be updating the list as more sale information comes in, too!

What I Wore: Elevated Everyday

blazer: aritzia | top: gap | jeans: joe's | shoes: hive and honey | scarf: c/o fraas

I love to get all dressed up, but to be totally honest, my lifestyle is pretty casual right now, so there's not much of a need to do so at the moment. Although I may wear jeans and a tee more often than a cocktail dress and a clutch, I still like elevating my everyday look just a bit. This glitzy Fraas scarf, a blazer, and wedge booties make a typical casual look just a little bit more glamorous, I feel so much more pulled together, but I don't get any crazy looks in the grocery store for being overdressed!

Gift Guide 2013: For the Guys

1. the home t (part of proceeds donated to MS research | 2. cuff links | 3. pocket change dish | 4. wallet 5. bow tie | 6. portable usb phone charger | 7. minimergency kit for him | 8. going, going, gone flask
9. jawbone up | 10. leather satchel | 11. the new york times 36-hour getaways (pair with a travel-related gift card!)  12. toiletries kit | 13. tablet case | 14. Baseball Cap | 15. tie bar | 16. iphone case    17. moscow mule mug 18. shaving kit | 19. sunglasses | 20. backpack

Guys are notoriously difficult to shop for, or, at least, the guys in  my life are challenging when it comes to purchasing presents for them. When it comes to guy gifts, I try to go with items that they'd never buy for themselves, whether it's an upgrade on an item he already owns, like a new toiletries kit, a weekend away, or a new "toy" like the Jawbone Up. And, in case you're wondering, this gift-guide is Brett-approved, so you're sure to find something on here that your guys will love!

Deck the Halls: Holiday Wreaths I Don't Hate

I'm going to tell you a little secret that might make me sound like a bit of a Grinch: I hate 95% of holiday wreaths. I'm terribly allergic to pine trees, and while having a faux tree has never bothered me, I rarely see faux wreaths that I don't hate. I feel like they tend to be on the overly cheesy side, so I set out to find a few that I actaually loved, and these nine are Best of BKLYN-approved!

Gift Guide 2013: 20 Hostess Gifts Under $50

The last six weeks of the year are always filled with merriment-making, and since things tend to get so hectic, I thought I'd share 20 suggestions for holiday party hostess gifts under $50 now, before things get crazy. A bottle of wine or flowers may be good default options, but sometimes, it's nice to plan something a little more thought-out, especially when you're staying overnight with your hosts! The monogram options take time to order, of course, but I can guarantee that your hostess will be delighted and touched that you thought of her in advance! And if you do go with a bottle of wine (or bubbly!) dress it up in something cute, like the champagne tote, to make it feel a little more festive.

Pop, Fizz, Clink!

If you ask me, the best way to celebrate anything is with a glass of good bubbly, and I firmly believe in celebrating the little things in life. As Hester Brown famously said, "Always keep a bottle of champagne in the fridge for special occasions. Sometimes the special occasion is having a bottle of champagne in the fridge!" Kate Spade shares my love of bubbly, and the brand's new "Pop, Fizz, Clink!" collection is right up my alley. While we may not be able to pop open a bottle of champagne on the daily, we can store our pocket change each day in that absolutely adorable champagne coin purse, and that's almost as good as the real thing.

Deck the Halls: Advent Calendars

One of my favorite parts of the Christmas season when I was younger was waking up each morning and getting to use our family's advent calendars! I rounded up a few of my current favorites- I love the idea of writing little notes or leaving tiny treats for your loved ones each day in the lead-up to Christmas!

What I Wore: Vintage Stripes

dress: vintage | purse: michael kors | shoes: nine west | bracelet: kendra scott | necklace: max + chloe

Last week, Brett and I went to a political fundraiser, and before the event, I had a major "I have nothing to wear!" moment. My crisis was averted when I spied this old favorite hanging back in the corner, sad and forgotten! I paired it with some leopard pumps to spice things up a bit, and my birthday present from my parents- that gorgeous Michael Kors Selma tote

Gift Guide 2013: For the Pets

In the last six months or so, I've morphed into a full-on "crazy dog lady" type, thanks to Bogey, so it should come as no surprise that I'm kicking off my 2013 holiday gift guide with the perfect presents for your puppy. I can't pick a favorite- the lucite dog bed, the puppy uppers treat canister from Jonathan Adler (I also love this super-cute and more reasonably priced canister from C.Wonder), or the "mom tattoo" dog sweater, everything is just way too cute. I don't really know much about cats, but I couldn't help including this hysterical cat tipi house. And since you don't want your pet left out when it comes time to open stocking gifts...this is perfect!

If your pet is the more selfless type (and aren't they all?), consider making a donation to the ASPCA or another rescue organization to help another pet-friend have a happy holiday season, too.

Holiday Party Essentials: The Clutch

clutch purse

It's crazy to believe that holiday party season is almost upon us! Since it seems like this time of year is so hectic for most,  I thought I'd start rounding up my picks for all of the holiday parties between now and the new year a little early.  Swapping a clutch for your everyday bag really elevates a look, and can make even your most basic LBD seem a lot more fun.

Best of: Thanksgiving Table Decor

thanksgiving table decor

It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away! I've often found that Thanksgiving gets overlooked in the decor department, with stores seeming to jump right from Halloween to Christmas. It seems like the majority of the Thanksgiving decor that's out there is on the cheesy side, so I wanted to hunt down some pretty Thanksgiving table decorations, since Thanksgiving seems to be the most food-focused holiday out there! If you want even more great Thanksgiving-themed centerpiece ideas, check out this post I did last year!

Happy Friday!

restoration hardware holiday

Happy Friday!! Hope you all had a safe and fun Halloween! We only got two groups of trick-or-treaters, but had fun dressing Bogey up and eating dinner with our neighbor friends. Now that it's November, I feel like it's finally appropriate to start talking about the holidays, so tune back in on Monday for some fun holiday decor ideas, followed by other festive posts! I love this time of year, and I'm a little too excited about making our new home all cozy for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hope you have a fantastic weekend, and thanks for reading.
