October Byrdie Beauty Glossybox

Glossybox sent me their October box to review, and as usual, I was so impressed! If you haven't read my reviews of Glossybox or heard of the service before, it's a monthly subscription sample box delivery service, where you pay $21 a month to recieve 4-5 "deluxe samples" delivered right to your door. To find out more, you can see my previous reviews here, or visit their site for more info! Keep reading to find out what was in this month's special collaboration box with Byrdie Beauty, WhoWhatWear's new beauty site, and what I thought about each product!
Packed with nutrients, peptides, vitamins, and botanical extracts, this anti-wrinkle mask not only smoothes fine lines and wrinkles, it also calms the skin from environmental stresses to rejuvenate it back to a youthful glow. Formulated with a patented delivery technology, P.E.T.® ingredients are able to penetrate the outer layers of the skin to the deeper regenerative layers, allowing the full benefits of each ingredient to be achieved.
My thoughts: I received this box a few days after my birthday, and kind of chuckled when the mask's label specified that it was for "mature" skin. I may be another year older, but I don't think my skin is very mature, ha!  Anyways, I gave the mask a shot. It's one of the fabric ones, where the fabric has eye, nose, and mouth holes cut out, and the fabric mask is soaked in the solution. Through Glossybox, I've been able to test a few of these type of masks, and mature skin or not, this one was my hands-down favorite. My pores appeared smaller, my fine lines were visibly reduced, and my complexion just seemed brighter overall!

This ultra-glossy, smoothing tinted lip salve hydrates, protects and soothes lips while imparting a sophisticated, natural ‘pop’ of colour. The "super soft beige" color was created exclusively for GLOSSYBOX subscribers. We have created an exquisite blend of oils to soften and nourish, including virgin coconut oil, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, castor oil and sweet almond oil. These oils provide the extra staying power for the salve, keeping your lips glossy and maintaining the colour. The colour tint is formulated with natural mineral make-up, designed to deliver strong colours, and is an exclusive blend of mica, titanium dioxide and iron oxide. The beautiful aroma of the salve is 100% pure natural essential oils, so it is subtle and sophisticated without being overpowering.
My thoughts: This was a great lip balm- it left my lips soft and moisturized, and I really liked the scent and flavor of the balm. I wish the color was a little less beige, but it looked great over some pink lipstick.

A universal daily facial moisturizer that provides 24 hours of significant hydration. It is formulated with proprietary Super 7 Complex that is specifically designed to minimize and prevent visible signs of aging and boost radiance.
My thoughts: I've been really impressed by the other Fresh products I've tried, both from Glossybox and Sephora samples, so I was excited to spot this one in the box. This wins for my favorite item in the box this month! I've been using it mainly at night, and it's done wonders for my skin, leaving it looking brighter, less puffy, with a reduction in pore size and fine lines, by the time I wake up in the morning. I mean, what more can a girl ask for, right?

BVLGARI | Eau Parfumée au thé vert
BVLGARI invites you to experience sensations of pure and immediate luxury in a unique ritual of hospitality. Eau Parfumée au thé vert, born from the rich culture of tea, a vital expression of refined elegance, awakens and refreshes the senses.
My thoughts: Glossybox has sent BVLGARI products in many of the boxes I've reviewed, and so far, I like this one best. It's nice and light and easy to wear.

Tarte | Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara
Take your sultry, flashy lashes to the extreme with this amped up, ultra-black mascara that lengthens, curls and magnifies lashes for an intensified look proven to increase lash volume by 752% instantly! Powered by tarte’s proprietary triple black complex, this longwear, vitamin-infused formula emphasizes length and volume while conditioning lashes for a dramatic look that won’t dry out, flake or budge. The custom-engineered, dual-molded brush boosts even the skinniest lashes for an exaggerated, voluminous look. First, the shorter, denser side of the brush delivers the optimal amount of mascara to volumize and coat each lash perfectly, then the longer, firmer side of the brush lengthens and separates for maximum volume without clumping.
My thoughts: I've never seen mascara with such flashy packaging. The gold casing, seen in the above photo, isn't a box or sleeve- that's the actual mascara packaging. Kind of cool, right? Included with the mascara was this complex diagram, below, with a model of the mascara brush that's included with the product. You use one half the bristles to apply, and the longer, firmer side to separate lashes. It's a genius concept, but it was a little hard to tell once the mascara was on, which side was which, on the brush. All in all, it's a solid mascara, and you can't beat the packaging.

Disclosure: Glossybox provided me with this box for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

Gold Foil Art Prints

After our big move, Brett and I recieved our last wedding gift, two and a half years later, from my awesome in-laws! The gift? Two gorgeous black and gold mid-century dressers from West Elm. To say I'm obsessed would be putting it mildly, and it's motivating me to make our bedroom look a little more finished. We have these lamps on our nightstands, which are gray and gold, and I've been window shopping for bedding and other accent pieces, too. I'm leaning towards doing some sort of miniature gallery wall, featuring gold art, to tie in with the hardware in the room, plus, my favorite color is shiny, so I'm a sucker for anything gold. Here are a few of the pieces I'm loving at the moment.

This graphic gold print is a collaboration between Minted + West Elm, and would break up any of the typography prints I've fallen in love with so well...

I love this abstract painting, and it would add a subtle layer of color into a room full of neutrals...
For those mornings when I wake up on the really wrong side of the bed...

And this one is perfect for us, since we're completely obsessed with Bogey...

Dream Fall Wardrobe

It's starting to get really chilly (remember, I'm from Arizona: chilly is anything below 65!)  here in Newport in the mornings and evenings, so I'm finally in the mood to look at fall clothes! I've talked about my adoration of Madewell in the past, but the label has really hit one out of the park with the fall/winter collection. I'm pretty sure that I could get through the next six months, wardrobe-wise, on Madewell alone! While in reality, I'm not going to be purchasing a whole new fall wardrobe, a girl can dream, (and window shop!) right?

California Love

Happy Friday! It's hard to believe I've been living in California for almost an entire month. I'm pretty sure I couldn't love this place any more than I do. The weather, the people, the beach, it just all makes me so happy and so at peace. The last few weeks have been all about settling in, making new friends, and spending as much time as possible with Brett before he starts his new job next week! We went on a paddle board date yesterday, and it's pretty much my new favorite activity. This weekend should be the best end to a fantastic month: lunch with some family, renting a boat with some new friends, and continuing our "church shopping" on Sunday! Have a great weekend, friends.

We've been in our new place in Newport Beach for about three weeks now, and to say that I'm in "nesting mode" would be an understatement. While we still need to make a few major furniture purchases, I can't help but jump ahead to what I consider the "fun" part of decorating a home...the art, the pillows, the zhush. Although we live a few blocks from the beach now, I'm resisting the urge to go full-on beach cottage with our decor, but I'm leaning towards one major exception to that idea...I'd love to hang a beach-y, large-scale print above our couch.

In a perfect dream world, that print would be one from Gray Malin's A La Plage, A La Piscine series of aerial beach photographs. These aren't the typical cheesy beach photos...they're art. I mean, how gorgeous are they? I can't stop looking. To see more of Mr. Malin's genius work, head over here to his site

Monogram Madness

I tend to believe that almost anything could be made better by stamping a monogram on it, so when I stumbled across Mark & Graham while on the hunt for bedding, I was instantly smitten. They have great accessories, hostess items that are pretty much perfection, classic and more modern takes on monogrammed jewelry, and leather items that are sure to become treasured heritage pieces for years to come.

Kelly Wearstler for Paperless Post

kelly wearstler stationery

Kelly Wearstler's interior design work and products have long been some of my favorite to ogle over. Now, she's created a whole new line of swoon-worthy stationery that is at a much more manageable price point! Kelly Wearstler for Paperless Post debuted earlier this week, and I'm in love. From the invitations to the personalized notecards, there isn't a set in the mix that I wouldn't love to have. I mean, look at those envelope liners! Since the collab is with Paperless Post, each of the items have the option to either order printed versions, or send the invites or notes electronically, kind of like a much more chic e-vite. Check it out here- perfect timing for holiday parties!

Off the Grid

I've been loving all of the grid or windowpane printed items I've been seeing in stores lately. I think it's a modern, fresh take on traditional plaid, and works equally well for menswear as well as items for us girls. Between printed shirts, and fun home accessories, you really can't go wrong with this one!

What I Wore: Faux Fall

jacket: nordstrom | dress: madewell | scarf: fraas, gifted | boots: frye

My Instagram feed is filled with gorgeous fall colors, apple picking dates, and cups of hot drinks. It's still sunny and warm here in Newport Beach, but that doesn't mean I'm not getting in on a bit of fall fun! I've been pairing my favorite fall accessories, like my Frye boots and new Fraas scarf, along with summer staples like this simple little dress. It's a great way for me to feel seasonally appropriate, and still reap the benefits of living in a warmer locale.

Halloween Costumes for Dogs

halloween costumes for dogs

I realize to some, dressing a dog up for Halloween (or Easter, or law school graduation, or Independence Day) is more than a little absurd, but I think it's just plain fun. I've been on the hunt for dog Halloween costumes for the last couple of months, and these are some of my favorites. I was really pleasantly surprised by the number of large dog Halloween costumes I was able to find, because Bogey is now a whopping 75 pounds, but that doesn't diminish my desire to dress him up!

Have you ever dressed your dog up for Halloween? What was the costume?

Fashion designers, celebrity stylists, and general purveyors of awesome Emily Current and Meritt Elliott have teamed up to design a collection of bedding, furniture, and accessories for PBTeen, and although I'm decidedly no longer in PBTeen's target demographic, I absolutely adore this collection. From polka dotted bedding, to sequined pillows, to a truly "fantastic" banner, this partnership is filled with whimsy and happiness. I've got my eye on that gold bedding! Shop the whole collection here.

The New Domino Magazine

I'm about to admit something that might make me an outcast in blogger circles: I never read Domino Magazine in its heyday. Nope, not one issue. I didn't really become interested in interiors until it was out of print, but I have pored over old scans and photos on my favorite blogs once I did develop a love of great spaces that rivaled my adoration of the perfect pair of shoes.

I was always a little bummed that I didn't have back issues stashed away in my closet, when the need for inspiration struck, but this week, Domino Magazine re-launched, with a gorgeous website that's completely shoppable (a dangerous feature with our recent move across the country and subsequent new space to decorate!) and filled to the brim with inspirational domains. My two favorite features so far are pictured above; a look into Lucky Magazine's EIC Eva Chen's new office, which is as bright and friendly as the social media maven is on her Twitter and Instagram accounts, and colorist-to-the-stars Rita Hazan's NYC pad that was designed by Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent, which is basically my dream home, and is providing some much-needed inspiration for our bedroom color scheme.

I totally get what everyone's been talking about. Go, see for yourself at Domino.com

What I Wore: Italian Evening

travel outfit
pants: uniqlo | top: j.crew (old) | shoes: clarks | bag: coach

I wore this outfit for drinks, dinner, and some exploring while we were in Italy. I usually need no excuse to throw on a pair of my highest heels, but I never even wore the one pair I brought the whole time we were on our trip. Between the cobblestone streets, and my general clumsiness, heels would have been a disaster! Sometimes you do have to let function trump form.

After Paris, Brett and I spent one day in Florence, which was gorgeous- it was a super quick trip, but we got to see the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio, both of which were so beautiful. After Florence, we spent five super relaxing days in Siena. After the hustle and bustle (and not to mention the long flight, train, and jet lag), it was great to slow down a bit and just enjoy our time together. (And drink some Coke Light with some...interesting...labels!)

Two of our closest friends, C and L, joined us for this part of the trip, which was a blast. L lived in Italy for a couple of semesters, and not only does she speak Italian, but she knew of all the best places to check out in Siena! We ate a few absolutely fantastic meals, took a two hour wine education class, visited the cathedral in Siena (It had STRIPES, you guys! Totally my favorite cathedral ever.), amongst other fun things. One of the highlights of our trip was a tour we took through the hills of Tuscany. A driver took us to a family-owned vineyard in Chianti, and we got to see members of the family pull grapes off the vine to make Chianti, as well as touring the winemaking facility, and best of all, doing a tasting! One of the next stops was this gorgeous little town on a hill, San Gimignano. I've been lucky enough to travel a good bit and see a lot of beautiful views, but this one absolutely takes the cake. (Gelato?) Seriously, breathtaking, and I wish we had been able to spend even more time there! It was just so vastly different from anywhere I've ever been, and I'll never, ever forget it. I just wanted to freeze frame our time there for a little bit. We enjoyed watching the sun set over the hills of Tuscany, and then headed to our final stop for dinner.

Dinner was outside San Gimignano, at this little organic farm that's run by three brothers. There's a small inn on the property, which would be a dream to stay at, with it's gorgeous views, and fantastic food. Every single thing they serve at dinner is made on the property. They raise their own animals for meat, grow grapes for their wine, olives for their oil, cultivate all of their produce, and even grind their own wheat to make the fresh pasta they serve at dinner each night. (I do believe the only exception to this was that they don't grow their own coffee beans for the espresso they served at the end of the meal.) Everything is served family style, which feels so warm and home-y, especially after we'd been eating at typical restaurants each night, and you can really see the love and care that goes into the food, and the pride that the owners feel about their end product. I'm so glad we were able to share that night with such great friends, and I'll definitely cherish those memories for a long time.

All in all, it was truly the trip of a lifetime, and I'll cherish the memories made on the trip forever. It was so fun to experience a different way of life, see so much beautiful art and architecture, and soaking it all in. I left Europe feeling so inspired and invigorated, and ready to take on this next chapter of life.
