What I Wore: Peplum Polka Dots

dress: piperlime | brooch: vintage | bracelet: kendra scott | shoes: michael kors

I wore this patterned peplum piece (I dare you to say it three times fast) out for a little family girls' night at Searsucker in Scottsdale! My mom, sister, and sister-in-law make quite the dinner companions, and we had a fantastic time. More on Searsucker soon- it was one of my favorite restaurants, ever.

In some exciting news, I'm in California right now! Brett starts the bar exam today, and I'm so proud of him. While he takes the exam, I'm hunting for a place for us to live once we move, and to say I'm excited would be an understatement. Have a great day!

Life Lately

flying to phoenix for the week
mexican and margs with alyson from the average girl's guide
celebrating the royal baby with sprinkles cupcakes
this wine bar is in the charlotte airport. yes, the airport. color me impressed.
meanwhile, back at the ranch, bogey's charmed brett into letting him sit on the couch while I'm gone. when the cat's away, the boys will play?

Please excuse my light posting schedule over the last couple of weeks! Things have been just a little crazy in my real, non-blogger life, trying to get ready for our move! I'm visiting Scottsdale right now to spend a little time with my family and friends before Brett and I go to California next week for him to take the bar exam (cue dramatic music here). It's crazy to think that I have less than 36 hours back in Charlottesville (in a couple weeks) to finalize our move! Big changes ahead- I hope you'll stay along for the ride, and thank you for understanding when my posting gets a little sporadic sometimes!

Best of: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

nordstrom anniversary sale

Now through August 5th, Nordstrom is hosting their annual anniversary sale, and as always, it's a can't miss shopping event. Unlike traditional end of season sales, all of the stuff on sale is brand-new for fall! I picked a few of my favorite things, but there's a lot more goodness on their website

Claire Danes in Vogue

all images via vogue
Claire Danes is on Vogue's August cover, and the shoot is heavily inspired by her role as Carrie Mathison on the TV show Homeland.  It may be one of my favorite Vogue shoots, ever.  Brett and I started watching the show this spring, and managed to finish both seasons in less than two weeks. I highly reccomend it, and I love Vogue's highly stylized version of her (and her on-screen love interest's) character. You can see the rest of the shoot and read the article here.

Do you watch Homeland?

We're Moving!

I'm so excited to finally share that Brett, Bogey, and I are moving to Newport Beach, California! We've loved our time here in Charlottesville, and all three of us will miss it (and all of our friends!) terribly, but we're so excited for this new chapter of our lives, and to be back on the west coast, closer to our families, and on the beach! Brett takes the bar exam in three weeks, and starts work in October, so we're planning on spending some time traveling and with our families before we officially settle in to our new hometown.
In the meantime, Bogey is practicing his sunglasses-wearing skills, so he's ready for the beach, and "helping" me with all of our packing. (Also known as picking up anything within his reach and running away and hiding with it.)
And not to worry, I'll be bringing best of BKLYN to California, too! Thank you all for reading, and sharing my excitement about the next chapter of our lives!

What I Wore: Stripes and Chambray

striped shirt
top, skirt, bracelet: j.crew | shoes: coach (on major sale!)

Last week, in celebration of the 4th, one of our favorite vineyards stayed open late, so Brett and I took Bogey out to have a little wine (don't worry, only for the humans!) and watch the sunset. I've been wearing this top so frequently since I bought it- I love the twist on classic stripes!

Glossybox Review

Glossybox sent me their May box to review, and I'm so excited to share what was inside with you! If you've never heard of Glossybox, it's a beauty sample box service, which means you pay $21 a month to receive a box filled with four to five deluxe sized samples (this month actually had 6!). For more info, you can check out their site here, and keep reading for my reviews of the products in this month's box!

This month's box was a special edition curated by the very talented fashion illustrator Dallas Shaw, and the box lid and inside card that has all of the product details on it feature her gorgeous work! I'm definitely  going to find the card a home on my inspiration board. I really loved all of the products in this month's box!

Inspired by the designer’s mastery of fashion, Oscar de la Renta introduces a tailored line of six unique scents imbued with his love of beauty and luxury. Comprised of specially sourced ingredients of the most exceptional quality, each fragrance echoes the close connections to Oscar’s vibrant life and loves, and perfectly speaks his language—find joy, be sparkling, feel gorgeous.
My thoughts: I loved that all six scents in the collection were included in the boxes this month, so you could pick your own favorite! I especially loved Oriental Lace and Santo Domingo.

SpaRitual offers a wide range of fun, sophisticated and modern nail lacquer shades to help you express the most colorful side of you. Colors will vary.
My thoughts: I loved the purple sparkly color I was sent, and it's making me super excited for dark fall manicures once again!

Get total lip therapy in a beautiful nude shade that‘s uniquely you! These creamy lipsticks have a glossy, tinted core that gives the appearance of fuller-looking, luscious lips. Thanks to complexion-enhancing pigments and emollient waxes, lips have never appeared more youthful.
My thoughts: This was definitely my favorite pick from this month's box. My box included the fair to light skin shade, and it was the perfect hue for my complexion. Once the two shades blended on my lips, the color resulted in a perfect light pink hue.

Elegant, nourishing oils absorb quickly into skin to smooth and soften while providing hydration. This dramatically lightweight dry oil for face and body imparts a light, lasting glow for instant radiance. Infused with a gentle, sweet blend of honey and almond, it’s the ultimate aromatic indulgence for the skin and senses!
My thoughts: I've never tried an oil mist, but after trying out this one, consider me a convert. It was the perfect light moisturizer, without being heavy, sticky or greasy, which is ideal for summer!

Philip B® products revitalize every type of hair while evoking a warming, cooling or refreshing sensation and delivering glossy, radiant hair. The brand‘s botanical products caters to a broad range of hair types - dry/damaged, colored/chemically treated, thinning/volumizing, wavy/curly/frizzy, flat/very fine, flaky scalp, oily and normal. You will receive one Philip B® product in the box.
I receieved the conditioning creme rinse as my Philip B. product in my box, and I really liked it! It softened my hair, made it easier to untangle, and moisturized without leaving behind any gunky residue.

If you'd like to order your own Glossybox, head on over to their site, and if you or someone you know is getting married, be sure to check out their Limited-Edition Wedding Box!

Note: this Glossybox was provided for review purposes, but all opinions are my own.

What I Wore: Leopard Print Peplum

top: zara (similar) | jeans: joe's jeans | shoes: gap | earrings: t+j jewelry (gifted)

It's been super warm and humid here in Virginia the last few weeks, and I've been missing my jeans! So when Brett and I decided to go see a movie last week, I knew the theatre would be freezing, so I finally got to wear my beloved denim again! I kind of forgot I had this peplum top, but now that I've pulled it back out of my closet, I think it will be on repeat for the rest of the summer!

Celebrating America

Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a great weekend, and that my American readers had fun celebrating Independence Day! Brett and I took Bogey to a pool party with a few of our favorite people  here in Charlottesville, and we had a blast! We swam (Bogey was super hesitant to jump in the pool, but loved being IN the pool after he got in), grilled, and just hung out with our friends...kind of the quintessential American holiday. What did you do for the Fourth?

(most of these photos are from my instagram...and did you know Bogey has an instagram account, too? follow along to get little behind-the-scenes glimpses of our lives, and plenty of gratuitous puppy shots, of course.)

Happy Fourth of July From Bogey

Happy Fourth of July from Bogey!

What I Wore: White Lace Skirt

skirt: urban outfitters (old) | top: anthropologie | shoes: cole haan | sunglasses: ray-ban | bag: coach

I wore this outfit on Friday evening, when Brett and I headed  to Charlottesville's Downtown Mall for Fridays After Five, which is a free weekly summer concert series. We've gone a few times this summer, and have really enjoyed just hanging out with some of our friends outside, drinking local wine, eating some snacks from local food trucks, and just enjoying the live music! If you're ever in Charlottesville in the summer, you must go!

What to Wear: Fourth of July

fourth of july outfit

The Fourth of July is such a fun holiday. My plans for Thursday involve grilling and hanging out by the pool with some of our friends, and I feel like most Fourth of July plans are pretty casual, so I kept the look in this post laid back, too! A couple more festive suggestions that aren't pictured: this sweater, which would be perfect for the beach, these shorts, and this swimsuit, which is currently 40% off! What are your plans for Independence Day?

What I Wore: Puppy Party

dress: gap (on major sale!) | earrings: kendra scott | sunnies: ray-ban || dog photos: samantha brooke photography

Social media is a funny thing, right? I "met" Samantha via Instagram a couple of months ago, but we hadn't met in person until this weekend. She has a one year old golden retriever puppy named Aspen, and she and her fiancĂ© hosted a birthday party for Aspen over the weekend, and they were sweet enough to invite Brett, Bogey, and me. Bogey and Aspen really hit it off, and we had a great time meeting Aspen's parents, too! Samantha snapped some amazing photos of Bogey, which are above, and  to see more adorable pics from the party, check out her blog post! (There is nothing cuter than two goldens wearing birthday party hats. Bogey didn't wear his, but Aspen and Baxter were much more cooperative!)
