See You Next Year!

This year has really flown by, and brought so many changes in my life. From Brett graduating, us moving across the country, fun trips to Napa, Paris, and Italy, it was filled with lots of great memories. And of course, the addition of Bogey to our family made 2013 one of my all-time favorites. I'm going to be taking the next week or so to spend time with my family and celebrate Christmas, but I'll be back in the new year with more posts. 2014, I think you're going to be the best year yet!

Have a Merry Weekend!

Have a very merry weekend! I can't believe Christmas is only five days away. Brett and I are watching the Balboa Christmas Boat Parade tonight with friends, and heading home to spend the holiday with our family, which we're both excited about! Hope you have a fantastic weekend full of holiday fun!

Best of the Bar: Bar Cart Styling Inspiration

I've wanted a bar cart since I was 12. I recognize that that sounds very strange, but I remember seeing one for the first time on Gilmore Girls, in Richard and Emily's living room. My longing to own one of my own has only grown over the years, and pretty much everyone I know knows I want one. But, I wanted it to be vintage, in great condition, gold, and perfect. What can I say? I'm picky.

All that said, my in-laws visited over the weekend, and we decided we'd celebrate Christmas early with them in case Brett and I couldn't make it back to Scottsdale next week. You can imagine my surprise when I walked into my living room, with "emergency" cheese and crackers that I "had" to stop on the way home for, and saw my in-laws, and this:

Vintage, gold, and perfect. Seriously, my mother-in-law (Thank you, Julie!)  found the Holy Grail of bar carts, and I get giddy every time I see it. I absolutely adore it, and I've been garnering some bar cart styling inspiration from around the web since Sunday. Fully stocking the bar cart may take some time, but it's so fun to play around with the styling of it! Here are a few of my inspiration photos:

What I Wore: Christmas Party

dress: nordstrom (old but love this!) | heels: kate spade | earrings and bracelet: kendra scott

shop the post:

On Saturday, B and I went to his work Christmas party. It was such a wonderful evening, and so much fun to get dressed up for! I couldn't resist wearing my red dress for a festive evening! Even though red dresses seem especially appropriate during the holidays, I think a great red dress is appropriate year-round.

Best of: Sparkle Shoes

Yesterday I shared some holiday beauty inspiration, so today, I thought I'd round up a few of my most favorite party shoes to share with you! There are few things I love more, fashion-wise, than a good statement shoe, and now through New Year's Eve is the perfect time to pull yours out of the closet, or treat yourself to a new pair! They're the perfect addition to almost any party outfit, and statement shoes are the best way to freshen up your go-to little black dress!

When I think of holiday party beauty looks, the first thing that comes to mind is a red lip. While it may be a bit ubiquitous come December, it's a tried-and-true classic for a reason. A little fun, a little sultry, and very festive, you can't really go wrong! If you're feeling a little less bold, try a berry hue for a pretty, but more subdued, look.

Christmas Morning Pajamas

Every Christmas when my sister and I were little (well, okay, last year too :) ), we got to open one present on Christmas Eve, and every year, it was a new set of pajamas to wear while unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning. While I may no longer believe in Santa, (shh!) having new pajamas to wear on Christmas morning is still fun!  Here are a few of my favorite options:

So, tell me, did you have the same tradition growing up?

A Very Merry Weekend

This weekend was the best. It was filled with lots of festive Christmas fun, great friends, both new and old, and time with Brett and Bogey. I wanted to share a few photos of all the merrymaking here on the blog!
Our wreath and tree, with a very exciting ornament addition- scales of justice for Brett, who found out he passed the California bar recently! He gets sworn in in a week, and I couldn't be more proud.
On Friday, we hosted an Ugly Christmas Sweater party, and I couldn't resist adding some sequins, leather leggings, and red shoes to my "ugly" sweater look.
And on Sunday, we went to the annual Corona del Mar Christmas Walk with our friends, which was a blast. All of the little shops and restaurants in our neighborhood have booths for food, shopping, and live music lining the sidewalk.
And by the end of the weekend, Bogey was so exhausted from the excitement of the weekend that he fell asleep sitting up with his face on the couch.
I hope your weekend was very merry, too!

Cold Weather Accessories

shop the post and more great winter accessories here:

With wintery weather expected across the country (even sunny Newport has lows in the 30s!)  this weekend, it's time to stock up on cold-weather accessories, like hats, scarves, and gloves! They're the best way to dress up a basic black coat, and even if you live a more temperate climate, these accessories work with your lighter coats and jackets, too.

November Glossybox Review

Glossybox generously sent me another box for review this month! If you missed my last Glossybox review post, Glossybox sends 5 delux travel sized items to you once a month for a subscription cost of $21 a month. The samples Glossybox sends are technically travel sized,  but I've been really impressed with how large the samples are!  Read on to find out what I thought of the products inside of this month's box, click here to see past Glossybox reviews on Best of BKLYN.

This month's box was themed "holiday romance," and it's pretty perfect for holiday parties. Three of the five items are for building a smoldering smoky eyeshadow look, one product is all about taking the whole look off, and the final product is ideal for repairing heat damage from those holiday party styles.

Achieve professional studio quality makeup with our Nicka K professional makeup brushes that have been designed and tested by our team of makeup artists. Each of our brushes have been ergonomically designed to ease handling and facilitation for flawless results with precise application.
My thoughts: Great eyeshadow brush! Blended my shadow perfectly, and always great to have an extra brush on hand.

This multi-tasking, sulfate-free cleanser effectively removes makeup, oil and impurities. Gently exfoliates with a combination of jojoba microbeads and alpha and beta hydroxy acids, while nourishing aloe vera soothes skin for a healthy, radiant glow. Good for any skin type. • Sulfate-free surfactants effectively cleanse skin without stripping essential lipids. • Alpha and beta hydroxy acids break down the glue that holds skin cells together, gently exfoliating top layers of complexion-dulling skin cells and debris. • Massaging jojoba microbeads gently polish away the loosened skin cells and debris while increasing circulation, leaving skin with a healthy-looking, radiant glow. • Stabilized aloe barbadensis leaf juice – rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes – nourishes, soothes and softens the skin. • Paraben-free
My thoughts: I loved this exfoliating cleanser, and I'm pretty particular when it comes to face scrubs. The fine particles gently exfoliated my skin without being overly harsh or drying, which means it's perfect for wintertime!

Emite’s oil-free Micronized Eye Shadow is a highly pigmented eye shadow that can be used both wet and dry and is the perfect choice for those with sensitive eyes. The micronized pigment assures a fine, smooth and even application and avoids grainy results for the ultimate, stunning look.
My thoughts: To be totally honest, I was a little nervous when I saw this shadow in the box. I mean, it's so dark, it almost blends into the above photo, and I usually stick to champagne-hued eyeshadows. I gave it a try, and I must say, for a black shadow, I really was impressed. It layered well, and went on lighter than anticipated, creating a smoky look effortlessly. Now I just need a little bit more courage to wear the look out of the house!

A uniquely formulated crayon that doubles as an eyeliner for thick, precise lines as well as a perfectly-blended eye shadow. The exclusive combination of Italian-formulated waxes and pigments allows you to build up the colour, smudge or create bold lines quickly and easily. Bonus : Creamy texture with long-lasting hold, made with pure beeswax so you don’t pull the sensitive skin around eyes.
My thoughts: Again, I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to the smoky eye look that this product promises, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The liner was fantastic, and I loved the color mix-up that the plum hue provided, as I typically only wear brown eyeliner. As for the shadow part, it's great in small doses. The first time I tried it, I over-applied, and wound up looking like I had been on the losing side of a fight, but when blended properly, I loved the deep purple smoky eye look that it resulted in! Moral of the story: less is more, like with most things in life and beauty.

Mastey's Color Protecting Leave In Oil Treatment is a special combination of Certified Argan Oil, Olive Oil, and GrapeSeed Extract. This unique combination provides the maximum protection and healing for color treated and damaged hair. Argan Oil infuses hair with natural nutrients to help repair and protect color treated hair from styling heat damage; Olive Oil helps to soften and moisturize the hair and scalp, and the powerful Anti-Oxidant Grape Seed Extract helps to prolong the life of your hair color. These three ingredients in combination with Mastey's vegetable based natural moisturizing factor, rice amino acids (rice proteins) for reconstruction, and Vitamins E, and B5 make this leave-in oil treatment the perfect solution for damaged or color treated hair.
My thoughts: I applied this treatment to wet hair post-shower, and let my hair dry. I was left with softer tresses and no frizz- a win-win, if you ask me!

LOVE necklace | 12. monogrammed bracelet | 13. cocktail shaker | 14. ankle booties | 15. leather tote bag (you can monogram it!) | 16. jewelry travel case

Shopping for the ladies in my life is always so much fun! For the majority of them, I know that if I love a gift, they will, too, which makes things more simple. For the gift-ees that have a different style than yours truly, I avoid gifting things that I would want to receive, which is sometimes trickier than it sounds, but after all, gifts are about the receiver, not the giver, right? For the record, I love every single item on this list, but I think there's something for just about any girl out there. Happy shopping!
