Black and White

The pairing of black and white has always been my favorite color combo. Found a few pretty things around the web this week in the contrasting hues, and wanted to share them with you today!

The Best of the Best: Brookelyn's Favorite Things

I'm so excited to share the second post in my new series with you today! If you haven't figured this out yet by the name of my blog, I'm kind of obsessed with dedicated to finding the best of the best of different products, no matter the "type" of product- from home goods, to stationery, to the best mascara you'll ever try. And once I find those things, I tend to be very product-loyal. An example: I've worn the same kind of mascara since I was 17. I decided to start a new weekly column to highlight some of my very favorite things with you, because what fun is finding the best of the best when you don't share the details?!

best concealer for dark circles

Most of us (Gisele, Heidi, and Miranda not included- lucky girls!) have at least one beauty woe that we'd like to disguise with  a touch of makeup. Mine has always been dark circles under my eyes. Benefit Erase Paste concealer is, hands down, the best undereye concealer I've tried. The creamy consistency ensures it stays put, the hyper-pigmented formula covers any darkness, and little shimmer particles help brighten by reflecting light to stop any additional shadows. At $26, it's not exactly cheap, but I will attest that a little tiny pot will last you months and months. Buy it at Sephora or Ulta- believe me, you'll be glad you did!

Best of:

I don't know about you, but I've got a case of the Mondays- it's cold, "wintry mixing" (is that even a word? or a thing?!) here in Virginia and I'm not feeling so great. And do you know what helps me cheer up from a case of the Mondays? Sparkles. Lots and lots of sparkles. I've been swooning over's glitzy hair pieces and accessories for a while now, and this gray day could use some sparkle, so I decided to share a few of my favorites with you today. My personal favorites? The mini heart in red and the sparkle and shine jumbo bobbi in rose gold and gold. And I'm totally crazy about their lookbook styling- it's gorgeous in a major way. If you sign up for their mailing list, you get 15% off your first order!

What's your favorite piece, and how do you beat a case of the Mondays?

Best of the Blogs

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, everyone! A few of my favorite things from around the web this week:

I loved this wardrobe inspiration that Lauren from Seventeenth and Irving shared, full of "not boring" neutrals.

Since I'm all about the shiny things, I went crazy for Victoria from vmac&cheese's post called Modern Alchemy.

Katelyn always shares great blogging tips over on her blog, Katelyn Brooke, and this post about making the most of Pinterest is most definitely pin-worthy!

And, if you're feeling crafty, I'm totally digging this DIY spike necklace from Chic Steals.

See you all on Monday!

Pin and a Spin: Cold Weather Outfit Idea

cold weather outfit inspiration

Since it's been COLD here in Virginia this week, (and snowy!) I decided to go with a cozy look. I love a good red coat, and this look (from blogger See Jane) is all-around perfect. Disclaimer: if it's snowing where you are, the leopard pumps are probably ill-advised...but they're too gorgeous to leave out!

Warby Parker Sunglasses

I've long loved Warby Parker's aesthetic and business model: you buy a pair of stylish specs from them for $95 (yes, that includes lightweight lenses, and even includes high-prescription lenses if you're blind as a bat!) and they donate a second pair to an individual in need. Kind of a win-win situation, since most glasses you buy in brick and mortar stores are ridiculously priced, and Warby Parker will send you five pairs of glasses to try on at home to try on before you commit to the real-deal prescription pair. I ordered a pair a couple years ago, and love the classic tortoiseshell frames, and the customer service was truly outstanding.

Warby Parker has had sunglasses for a little while now, but I recently checked their site out, and man, was I impressed! They have lots of options for frame styles, and most frames come in a variety of colors, which I love. Their styles range from the classic Winston, to the funky Everett (pictured here in the "bellini" shade- love that name!), to the ultra-glam Mabel, which is my personal favorite. The shades are priced at a super-reasonable $95, and again, Warby Parker will send a pair of eyeglasses to an individual in need. The try-on at home program is available for the sunglasses, as well! If you need prescription sunnies, they're $150, which is a great deal, as far as rX sunglasses go. The lenses are all polarized, which is extra-important to protect your peepers, and remember, even though it's gray outside, protect your eyes with sunglasses, since the sun's rays are still there, even when it's not sunny.

Head over to Warby Parker to check out the rest of the collection, and heads up, they have both eye and sunglasses for the man in your life, too!

Wardrobe Essentials From Trilogy

I love getting dressed up, but when it comes to my daily uniform, you can usually find me in jeans and a pretty top. Trilogy recently reached out to me and asked me to share a few of my favorite things from their site, and I honestly love just about every top and blouse they have on their site! The six I picked above would be perfect as layering pieces right now, and will transition well into spring and even summer (depending on where you live), since they're made of silk. Head on over to their site, and tell me: which one of these is your favorite top?

Kate Spade New York's Mondrian Collection

I've long admired Piet Mondrian's paintings, and his bold, graphic use of color and stripes have made him one of my very favorite artists. I was so excited when I spotted Kate Spade's new arrivals- they've created a mini-line of Mondrian printed items in hues perfect for springtime! I adore all of the pieces in the collection, but if you're looking for a more budget-friendly way to get a little more Mondrian in your life, try downloading one of the Mondrian style wallpapers for your phone or desktop on Kate Spade's blog! Which is your favorite piece from the collection?

I decided to start a new weekly column to highlight some of my very favorite things with you, because what fun is finding the best of the best when you don't share the details?! First up on the list: my all-time favorite boots.
Oh, these boots. I could talk about these Frye "Melissa Button Boots" in the cognac color forever, but I'll try to keep it short. I got these boots as a Christmas gift three years ago, and they remain one of my absolute favorite things in my wardrobe today. They're comfortable, stylish, and they honestly look even better today than they did when I first started wearing them- they look just slightly worn in, but in a good way, not a "worn out" way. They're pricey, and I know they're not in every budget, but I promise you, if you save your pennies to purchase these boots, you won't regret it! I'm thinking I should start saving for the gorgeous black pair, too- that's how much I love these boots!

LOVE Instagram Art

martha stewart, instagram art ideas, printing instagram photos
I was reading February's edition of Martha Stewart Living when I came across this idea for Instagram art, and I had to share. It's super simple, and you could easily change the photos out seasonally. You can see the project on the Martha Stewart website here, and download the template here. I think this would be so cute over a bed or in a living room, and would make a sweet Valentine's Day gift for someone, to boot. Martha really knows what's up, amirite?

If you're as addicted to Instagram (guilty!) and are looking for more ideas to use all of your little square, filtered images, check out my post on the subject here, and to print your Instagram photos for this project, prints the size that's used in this project- 48 images for $12!

Have a Great Weekend!

Hello friends! No new post today, I'm not feeling my best, and I'm hoping to take a cue from this photo and spend the weekend recharging! I hope you have a wonderful long weekend, and I'll see you back here on Tuesday!

Best Of: The Land of Nod

land of nod, desk lamps

I don't have any kiddos, so I don't often find myself perusing children's furniture sites. But on a recent hunt for a desk lamp, I decided to check out The Land of Nod, Crate and Barrel and CB2's sister site that's just for kids. Needless to say, I was floored when I found the four lighting fixtures above on the site- while definitely kid friendly, they're chic enough to put anywhere in the home, even if you don't have little ones of your own. Personally, I'm loving the two gold options- which are your favorites?

Heading Home

After a wonderful super-extended Christmas vacation in sunny Scottsdale with our friends and family from back home, Brett and I are heading back to our home in Charlottesville! The last month has been kind of a crazy whirlwind, but it was such a blessing to get to spend time with the people we love! As much as I'll miss everyone, I'm excited to get home and get into a routine again. I've got some big blogging plans in store for 2013, and I can't wait to see them unfold!

Best of: Note to Self: The Print Shop

floral bouquet | striped shirt | polka dot pumps | california print (she has a bunch of cities!)

One of my absolute favorite bloggers, Sarah from Note to Self,  just started her very own little print shop! I've always loved her striking black and white design aesthetic, and she's carried that over into her prints, canvasses, and iPhone cases that are in her shop. I'm on a mission to create a gallery wall over my desk when we return to Charlottesville tomorrow, and I'm thinking that one of her prints would be the perfect addition!

What I Wore: Saturday Brunch

blazer: c/o aritzia | jeans: joe's jeans cigarette jeans | boots: frye melissa button boots | button-up: target | monogram necklace: west avenue jewelry | watch: michael kors

I met one of my BFFs for brunch on Saturday morning, and I relied on a few of my favorite closet staples for this look. I got these Joe's Jeans in the Cigarette cut for Christmas (thanks mom and dad!), and they may be the most flattering pair I've ever owned.

Pin and a Spin

I feel like I have a little bit of a sequin hangover from all of the holiday festivities, so I decided to keep this week's Pin and a Spin simple, stylish and classic! You can see the original pin here, and to see more Pin and a Spin posts, click here

Have a great weekend!

The BEST Black Opaque Tights, Ever

Four years ago, I had to buy black tights in March in Scottsdale. Let me tell you, finding tights in March in Arizona is no small task, but I wound up purchasing these black opaque tights from Express. (Heads up, they're a lot more opaque in real life than in the Express store photo!) I bought two pairs, and I've worn them all the time for the past four winters, and they've lasted and lasted, which is saying something, since I'm the clumsiest person I know.

I've seen them in-stores, and they're almost always on a buy 1, get 1 50% off promotion, which brings the price down to a bargain price of $12, give or take. I finally replaced mine this year, when they met the demise of me tripping and falling, and the second pair got a little too close to my velcro rollers, but other than that, they were still in great shape! I'd highly recommend these, if you're looking for the best black opaque tights on a budget- considering I rarely wear navy tights, and I've replaced my $8 Target brand tights three times since I've bought these, it's an investment worth making!

What I Wore: White Vintage Dress

I picked up this dress at Shareen's Vintage in LA earlier this summer, and haven't had a chance to wear it yet, but decided to play dress up one Sunday before we left Charlottesville, and thought I'd snap some photos to share! I love the gorgeous pleats, and the perfect little matching satin belt, too!

Resolution: Get Organized

organizing tips and supplies

I have a confession to make: I'm not exactly an organized person. It generally takes me fifteen minutes to find my keys, I've double-booked myself twice in the last couple of weeks, and I have more stray tech cords tangled in a box than I know what to do with. One of my personal goals for this year is to get (and stay! always more challenging for me) organized. I decided to round up a few of my favorite fun organizational tools...maybe I'll bribe myself to get organized with the promise of a purchase of one of these babies in the future.

Any be-organized tips for me?

What I Wore: Brights and Black

dress: shipley & halmos x uniqlo (from 4 years ago) | blazer: nordstrom rack | necklace: spike the punch
earrings: c/o kara ackerman | shoes: c/o DMSX

I snapped these outfit photos before we left Charlottesville, but never shared them! I love an all-black ensemble with little shots of color, like my bright blue blazer and Spike the Punch necklace- it's a fun way to dip your toes into wearing color without going all-out on the colorblocking.

Resolution: Get Fit

Whether you're starting a new workout regimen or just getting back into your fitness groove after the holidays, a cute workout outfit is great motivation to hit the gym. I think it's important to feel confident at the gym, so you look and feel great, but I don't like spending a ton of money on workout clothes- I'd rather have more money to spend on "real" clothes. I've tested everything above, except the earbuds, and I can honestly say that the target workout tops and sports bras are a great buy for the money- I have ones from last Christmas that I wash and wear every week that look as good as they did when I first got them! The gap workout pants go on sale all the time, which makes them even more of a bargain. Personally, I'll always splurge on good workout shoes- your knees, ankles, and back will thank you! And if you're trying to watch what you eat, the Lose It! app is a super easy way to track calories and workouts, too.

What I Wore: New Year's Eve

top: j. crew | pants: target | earrings: kendra scott | black pumps: cole haan

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season with your friends and family. I took a few days off to spend time with mine, but I'm excited to be back posting again! My parents threw a little New Year's Eve party, and we had a great time! I wanted to share a few photos of the party- aren't my mom's glitter candlesticks awesome? Love them!
