I can't believe it's already almost July- the summer is flying right by! I'm trying to pack as much fun and sun into my summer in Newport as possible, and I've been documenting it all through Instagram. Here are a few peeks into what I've been up to, and to follow along in real time, I'm @bestofbklyn

C.Wonder is a new(ish) shop full of fanciful fripperies, but my favorite section of the site is by far the one bursting with fun bangles. From enamel initial bracelets to a sweet "love you" message,  C.Wonder has your wrists covered! These are just a few of my favorites- check out the online site for more fun things, or find out if there's a store near you here

Newport Bay by Boat

Last week, Brett and I rented a little boat in the Newport bay and spent some time near sunset driving around Balboa Island. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and we had a blast. It's so much fun to just cruise around and check out the boats, stand up paddle boarders (managed to snap a photo right as one fell off her  board!), kayakers and the like, and we had such a great time, we decided to do it again yesterday, when Brett's parents came into town!

What I Wore: Striped Maxi Dress

I scooped up this striped maxi dress at the Joie/Equipment sample sale in LA a few weeks back, after a friend of mine alerted me to the sale (seriously, the kind of friend that tells you about sample sales is a  pretty awesome kind of friend), and I'm more or less obsessed with this dress now. It's silk, easy to wear, comfortable, and it has stripes- what more could I ask for in a dress?

Up until a summer or two ago, I was always afraid that maxi dresses would overwhelm my 5'3'' self, so I steered clear, until I saw a fellow "vertically challenged" friend rocking one, and to my surprise, the maxi dress made her petite frame look taller. If you're short like me, I highly recommend giving a maxi dress a go- pair it with wedges or heeled sandals, and make sure it doesn't drag on the ground. It's the perfect summer look.

LACMA- Los Angeles County Museum of Art

When Meggie was in town a couple of weeks ago, we took a little field trip and headed up to the LACMA art museum in LA. I'm so glad Meg suggested we go- the collection is so vast, and we only managed to see about half of it, but the pieces we did see were stunningly beautiful. The museum itself is gorgeous, and at the end of our visit, we took our tired feet to Ray's, the restaurant at the museum, and had ourselves a divine dinner. If you're visiting anywhere around the LA area, I'd highly recommend making a stop at the LACMA! Meggie snapped all of the photos below (well, not the ones of her, obviously), and I'm excited to share our little adventure with you!

My dress is rag + bone, denim top is from american eagle, bracelets are vintage and marc by marc jacobs.

Meggie's cute moto jacket is this one from Hint Boutique, which is our lovely friend Natalie's shop!

What I Wore: Beach Day

My friend Meggie visited me in Newport this weekend, and we had an absolute blast. Our days were jam-packed with fun things, but we made sure to squeeze in some relaxing beach time, too! The weather was perfect, and I decided to wear a skort I bought from Zara when I was in Chicago last month. At the store, I grabbed what I thought was a skirt, but I quickly realized once I was in the dressing room that the "skirt" was really a skort. I honestly hadn't seen a skort since I was in about 4th grade, but I wound up being completely enamored with the pattern, and I must say, I've worn it a bunch of times since!

Skort: Zara, Shoes: BP (Nordstrom), Top: Old Navy, Sunglasses: Target

Custom Hotel LA

Before Brett and I took off for Chicago, we spent the night in LA to avoid waking up in the middle of the night to make our early morning flight. Brett booked a hotel blindly through Hotwire, and we really lucked out. We were thinking we would wind up with a regular airport hotel, which would have been totally fine (and what we were expecting!) but as luck would have it, we stayed in the Custom Hotel LA, a small boutique hotel. The hotel has a crazy cool retro vibe, and is kind of designed around an airline "theme" (think Pan-Am, not Southwest), since it's located about 5 minutes from LAX. I loved how everything was designed, from the lobby to the bar to the pool, and our room was super modern and relaxing at the same time. And to put a cherry on top, they stock the bathrooms with Lather products- the lavender-lime scented lotion was amazing. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat, and would highly recommend it to anyone needing a hotel in that area! Here are just a few photos of the Custom Hotel so you can see a little peek of the place.

Kate Spade Book Clutches

I adore window shopping at Kate Spade- it's a little bit of an escape, and everything by the brand is just so unabashedly whimsical. I love the sparkles, the polka dots, and of course, the stripes that seem to adorn almost every item. I know that Kate Spade's book clutches aren't new, but I can't get over how cute they are. At $325 each, they're certainly a splurge, but they would certainly prove to be a conversation starter at parties! Just be sure to do your reading beforehand!

So, which title would you want to carry?

What I Wore: Wedding Edition

After our time in Chicago, Brett and I headed down to Bloominton, Illinois, for my brother-in-law's wedding! Wade and Claire got married in a chapel in the middle of a forest, which was beautiful, and the wedding was wonderful. Congratulations to Wade and Claire!
