I've tried a bunch of drugstore deep conditioners over the years, and while they've all helped some, I've never seen the kind of results that I have in the past few months of using unrefined, extra-virgin, coconut oil. I bought some of the oil for the first time a couple of months ago to make some muffins (this recipe is amazing and allergy-friendly), and I had heard that coconut oil makes a great moisturizer and deep conditioner, so I figured I'd give it a test run. Since coconut oil sometimes solidifies at room temperature, I just warmed up a little in my hands and coated my hair with the oil, and let it sit on my strands for an hour or so. It took a couple of washes in the shower to get fully out, but I swear, my hair has never been so soft. And at around $9 a jar, it's less expensive than a lot of drugstore deep conditioners out there! If you're curious, check out this list of 30 more ways to use coconut oil in your beauty routine.
