Photo Diary- Charlottesville and the University of Virginia in the Spring

Even though this winter was pretty mild, I'm really enjoying this transition to springtime here in Virginia. From blooms on trees to people sporting pastels around campus at the University of Virginia, I've been enjoying all of the little moments that are signs that spring is here to stay. I wanted to share a few photos I've taken over the last couple weeks around town and on campus, plus a few that I snapped when Brett and I took a tour of the Rotunda building at UVa

What I Wore: Little Pink Dress

I've worn this dress countless times since I've bought it, but I realized when I put it on on Friday that it had yet to make an appearance on the blog! I throw this dress on like it's a little black dress- even with the bright hue, it seems appropriate for a variety of occasions. I adore the origami-like folding around the neckline- it's so unique from the other dresses in my closet.

Dress: BCBG
Earrings: Kendra Scott
Shoes: Pierre Hardy x Gap (similar)
Watch: Michael Kors

What I Wore: Cherry Blossom Visit

I shared photos from our little trip to see the cherry blossoms last week, but I didn't post any of my outfit! Since we were driving up and back from Charlottesville in one day, I wanted to be sure to be comfortable, and this skirt and top combo fit the bill, while still looking cute. I had brought a sweater, but it was so warm that I ditched that and left it in the car, and was glad I did!

Top: Francesca's (last year)
Skirt: Gap (last year)
Shoes: Sofft
Bag: Coach
Monogram Necklace: West Avenue Jewelry via Max and Chloe
Turquoise Necklace: Random shop in Phoenix
Watch: Michael Kors
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

The Icon: Michelle Obama

This week's icon is a relatively new face to the style scene. Michelle Obama first began getting attention for her stylish looks when her husband was on the campaign trail, and after his inauguration, she's become known as a sartorial star. Mrs. Obama effortlessly mixes high and low- wearing a mix of designers and fast fashion brands, like H+M, with a healthy dose of J.Crew mixed in. She redefined First Lady style, trading in dull pantsuits for colorful pieces with fun prints. She's not afraid to bare her arms, and you can't blame her- she has a pair of smokin' guns! Obama is not afraid to take risks when it comes to her fashion choices- sometimes the risks she takes are failures, but most times, they are runaway successes!

Photos of the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, D.C.

This week, Brett and I took a little day trip up to Washington, D.C. to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom! We had been wanting to go since last year, and it was beautiful. I was blown away by how visually impressive all of the cherry blossoms were, and they smelled absolutely divine. We only stayed in DC for a couple of hours, but I'm so glad we made the trip. I snapped a few photos while we were there, and I wanted to share a few of my favorites.

Best of: Cute Flat Sandals

If you're anything like me, you're excited to put away your winter boots and wear some cute flat sandals right about now. I'm not a fan of flip flops- they hurt my feet and tend to look a little too beach-y for day to day life. Plus, with all of these stylish and cute flat sandal options out there, why wear boring flip flops? I've rounded up a few of my favorite pairs for this spring below, with a wide variety of styles and budgets in mind!

Starting from the top row, left side:
Topshop Crossover Fluro Sandals
Havana Snake T-Bar Sandals
Topshop Gladiator Sandals

Topshop Crossover Glitter Sandals
Topshop Florida Simple Buckle Sandals
Topshop Heroic Gladiator Sandals

J.Crew Tova Sandals
Burberry Leather T-Bar Sandals
Red Valentino Bow-Embellished Leather Sandals

Miu Miu Stingray-effect leather Sandals
Jimmy Choo Fiona Metallic Crushed Leather Sandals
Pierre Hardy Studded Leather Sandals

5 Things to do to Get Ready for Spring!

Happy spring, everyone! Today is the first day of spring, and I'm so excited for the next few months of gorgeous weather! Are you and your closet ready for spring? Here are a few tips to make sure you are!

-Rotate your winter clothes to that back of your closet and put your warm weather clothes front and center, so you can easily see what you have and what you need to buy. Don't forget to check your shoe and handbags, too!

-While you're doing that, check your winter clothes, too. This is a great time to get rid of the sweaters with holes in them and the mittens that have seen better days. Take anything to the tailor that needs to be mended, and send your heavy coats off to the cleaners. You'll be glad you did when that freak October snowstorm hits! It's never a bad idea to check the sale racks while you're shopping for spring clothes- you just might score the perfect replacement to your favorite black sweater. Take your boots and booties to the cobbler to be cleaned, have heel taps replaced and get them waterproofed while you're at it!

-Check out blogs and magazines for spring inspiration. Set a budget for clothes, and make a list of things you need, and a separate list of things you want. Buy the basics first, and then use the rest of your budget to buy fun and trendy items like pastels and neons. Don't forget to shop for your lifestyle- if your idea of a perfect spring is playing sports outside, you probably don't need a closet full of little spring dresses

-Switch up your beauty routine! Make sure your skincare routine has tons of SPF coverage (You should be wearing SPF every day, but you really need to be wearing it when you're outside a lot, and yes, brunch on a patio counts!), pick up some blotting papers at the drugstore, and buy your favorite mascara in a waterproof formula. I think spring is the perfect time to try out a bright lip hue, too- this one is one of my favorites.

-Treat yourself to a pedicure so your feet look pretty in those new sandals!

What are your tips to get ready for warmer weather?

The Icon: Grace Kelly

No list of style icons would be complete without the inimitable Grace Kelly. The Hollywood starlet turned Princess of Monaco lived the life that little girls dream of until her tragic death in a car accident. If I had to choose one word to describe her style, it would be glamorous. Whether Grace Kelly was wearing a ball gown or sunnies and a trench coat, the princess always looked stylish. You know a woman deserves the title "style icon" when Hermes names a bag after her, the Hermes Kelly bag, which she carried faithfully and used to help cover up her pregnancies from paparazzi's lenses. Grace Kelly's wedding dress also  inspired Kate Middleton's wedding gown over 50 years after her marriage- the very definition of "timeless" dressing. Here are a few of my favorite Grace Kelly style moments.
