Budget Skin Care Routine

At 24, I feel like I'm at the age where I need to have a skincare regimen that will prevent aging and keep my skin looking great for years to come, but I'm not quite at the point where I'm ready to drop a few hundred dollars on pricey department store brands. Here's what I've been using and loving the past few months. These products can all be found at your local drugstore!

From left to right

1. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash- I've been using this specific face wash since high school. I use it twice a day, and it usually manages to take off the majority of my eye makeup without having to use specific remover, which is great, because I'm sometimes lazy at the end of the night. I used to go to sleep with makeup on all the time, but I never do anymore- I know it's not good for my skin...and it just feels plain gross in the morning.
2. Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub- I'm about halfway through my first bottle of this, and it's definitely my favorite drugstore exfoliating scrub I've ever used. It has 2% salicylic acid, which helps prevent acne, and it keeps blackheads at bay, too. I use the scrub in the shower a couple days a week.
3. Purifying Mint Mask- A few times a month, I put this green mask on my face, wait 20 minutes, and wash it off. It definitely makes a difference in unclogging pores, making my face look more "fresh," and it's dirt cheap, too! This one is CVS brand, but I've used a few different kinds-they all seem pretty similar.
4. Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry Touch Sunblock in SPF 45- Confession time: I used to use tanning beds. I know, I know. I was young and stupid. I'm super protective of my skin now, however, especially since I burn pretty easily with my fair skin. Any time I'm going to be in the sun for extended periods of time, I use this all  over my skin to protect it, and I wear hats sometimes, too!
5. Olay Complete SPF 30 Defense- Continuing with the whole "prevention is the best medicine" thing, this lotion goes on my face every single morning- even if I'm just sitting in the house with the windows open or driving in the car- I told you, I'm super protective of my skin now! This stuff goes really well under makeup, and  pulls double duty moisturizing your skin, too!
6. Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Serum- I've used this product for about a year- I apply it under #5 during the day (when I remember) and always at night. I definitely see a marked improvement in the texture of my skin when I use this- my skin looks smoother and brighter. My mom's dermatologist recommended this product to her over any department store serum and over anything her office sells- to me, that says something! Sometimes, you don't have to spend more to get great results.
7. Olay Total Complete Moisturizer- I use this in the winter time at night over the #6 serum when my skin is extra dry- I don't have to use it frequently, but it's great when my skin is way too dried out!

If you're on a budget and want to pick up just one or two products now, I'd go with the face wash (the generic kind of this is great, too!), sunscreen (of course!) and the serum- it really does make a difference, plus it moisturizes! I've acquired all of these products over time. One more tip- I know that Costco sells a lot of the Olay stuff for much cheaper than you can buy it at a drugstore! You could go in with a friend and split the two-packs they sell.

Disclosure: I wasn't paid by any of the brands mentioned in this post. I've bought all of the products here myself, except the serum- my mom gives me bottles of that when I visit home. Thanks, Mom!

  1. I'm a big, big Neutrogena girl. Moisturizer, facewash, makeup -- works well and not too expensive!
