Jessica Durrant Fashion Illustrations

This weekend, while browsing on Etsy, I stumbled across Jessica Durrant's Etsy shop, and  I fell in love with her work immediately. It's not often I find an Etsy shop where I love every single item in the store, but with Jessica's, I'd happily hang any of her fashion illustrations in my home. I asked Jessica if I could share a few of my favorite prints on the blog, and she agreed. I had such a hard time choosing! Best part- each print is only $25, for an 8.5"x11", which is a steal, if you ask me!

Christmas Lights in Charlottesville

Saturday night, Brett and I set out in the car to find some Christmas lights in Charlottesville. We'd both been talking about how awesome all of the huge colonial homes in the area would look with Christmas lights on, but we were sorely disappointed. None of the houses had lights up! We both pouted for a bit, but we managed to find a little neighborhood with a couple houses that went all out, and that definitely brightened our moods a bit. We also got the chance to see the UVa Rotunda all lit up, which was so pretty. I snapped a few pics on our (mis)adventure, so here's a peek of what we saw.

Instagram Snaps

One of the very first apps I downloaded when I got my iPhone this summer was Instagram, and it quickly became my favorite way to capture and share (via Facebook and Twitter) little moments in life. If you're using Instagram, I'm bestofbklyn. I thought I'd share a few of my favorite snaps from the last couple months!

Hostess Gifts

Since we talked about what to wear to holiday parties yesterday, I thought I'd round up a few hostess gift ideas today. Wine and flowers are always appreciated, but I decided to go a little more out of the box and come up with some fun and unique ideas that your hostess is sure to love.

What's your favorite hostess gift to give?

Perfect Holiday Party Look

This weekend is sure to be jam-packed with festive holiday parties, and it's the perfect time of year to bring out all of the sparkly accessories you own! I came up with this look to take you from one party to the next without skipping a beat (add tights if you live somewhere cold!), and the best part is, you could re-wear all of the pieces separately for a slightly less festive look in the new year.

Clutch: J.Crew
Shoes: Kate Spade
Earrings: Kate Spade

Black and White

I'm loving this winter white jacket today-it would be perfect with black skinnies or over a LBD for Christmas Eve. And at $49, it's a steal. It comes in black, too!

What I Wore: Casual Cool

On Saturday, I wore this comfortable+cozy outfit to decorate Christmas cookies with friends. I've been living in this flannel shirt and my Frye boots the last couple weeks- I just keep pulling them out whenever I can't decide what to wear!

Jacket: Nordstrom
Plaid: Target (similar)
Jeans: Uniqlo
Boots: Frye

What I Wore: Fake Jury Duty

So, if you've been reading along, you may have caught that I'm married to a law student. And law students have to practice being lawyers, or so I'm told. A couple weeks ago, one of Brett's friends emailed a bunch of people asking if they knew any non-law students that could come in and sit on a mock trial jury for an afternoon. I've really, really, always wanted to be called for jury duty (I know, I'm weird), so Brett knew I'd be all over this. It was kind of cool to see, and I even wound up being the jury foreman! Anyways, back to the style blog topic at hand: this is what I wore to sit on a fake jury. The end. (And yes, I've been told I'm not a great storyteller. Sorry!)

Sweater: H+M
Dress: Urban Outfitters
Tights: Target
Shoes: Hive and Honey

What I Wore: Sequins, Stripes, and Plaid

The Saturday after Thanksgiving, we went out to dinner with the family of one of our friends here. I went with non-skinny jeans since I was still feeling a little Thanksgiving-ed out! I picked this flannel top up when I was shopping for some workout clothes at Target- I didn't do the whole black Friday thing, but I did brave the store Saturday, and it wasn't crowded at all!

Did you do Black Friday shopping?

What I Wore: Faux Fur

So, since I didn't post a whole lot last week, I have lots of outfit photos for this week! I wore this last week to have coffee with my friend Jen. I've been wearing this fur vest non-stop- it's just so comfy and cozy!

Vest: Marshall's (similar)

{Sorry the photos are a little "meh." The whole daylight savings thing is making taking photos sans flash a little challenging!}

Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I feel like I have so much to be thankful this year. I have an amazing husband, a great family, wonderful friends. I'm the healthiest I've been in the last five-ish years, which is definitely something to be thankful for- I can walk and use my hands! I have a job I love, and hopefully in a few hours, I'll have my first Thanksgiving prepared with Brett ready on the table! Have a wonderful day today!

Last Friday Night

I've had that Katy Perry song stuck in my head since I went to the gym this morning, so it's only fitting that that's what I titled today's post about what I wore, you guessed it, last Friday night. We went to a little holiday party hosted by some of our friends- kind of crazy that we're already to the point in the year where it's time for a holiday party! Anyways, I bought this dress a couple years ago, but it had these stupid pockets in it that made the dress super unflattering. Thanks to my incredibly talented seamstress, I can now wear it without looking gigantic. She just took the pockets right out!

Dress: Express (similar)
TIghts: Express
Boots: Cole Haan (similar)
Lipstick: Covergirl Spellbound
Nails: China Glaze Ruby Pumps (best red glittery polish, ever!)

What I Wore: Floral and Mustard

I often fall into the habit of wearing specific pieces together, and not mixing things up more. I try to avoid it, but sometimes, I'm feeling too lazy to figure out if things "work" or not, so I rely on fallbacks. I've worn this top dozens of times, but pretty much only with jeans or a navy skirt. I decided to mix things up a little bit yesterday, and went for a bolder look, pairing the top with my mustard pants. I really liked the seventies vibe that I wound up with! Moral of the story: try new things!

Best of: Glittery Goodness

In case you haven't heard, the holidays are quickly approaching! Thanksgiving is next week, and holiday parties will begin soon after that. While it's always fun to buy fabulous, sparkly dresses to wear to one party, I think that adding a little sparkle to your everyday life this time of year is equally as important. With hectic schedules and dreary weather, a little glitter will brighten your day!

What I Wore: All Dressed Up

On Friday night, Brett and I went to a fundraiser for his law school, and we had a blast. I've been saving this dress in the back of my closet for a solid year, and I've never had the perfect opportunity to wear it until this weekend! It was actually my mom's, from the 80s, and I snagged it before she did her last big closet clean-out! I'm crazy about the low-cut back- so different, and unlike any other LBD in my closet (and there are quite a few of those!).

Dress: Vintage
Ring: Vintage earring turned into ring
Shoes: Classiques Entier (Nordstrom)

What I Wore: Cold and Rainy

I feel like I went from one extreme to the other this week! Yesterday, it was rainy, dreary, and cold outside. I managed to stay inside pretty much the whole day, but when I had to dash out to run some errands, I pulled out my coziest scarf, standby leather jacket, and Hunter wellies! I always seem to gravitate towards bright lip colors when it's raining or cloudy- definitely brightens my day up!

Sweet Stationery

Today, I'm in love with these adorable thank-you cards from Jess LC. They'd be perfect for post-holiday (I know, I know-a little early) thank you note sending!

Cayman Islands Photo Diary

Brett and I headed down to Grand Cayman Island on Thursday for a little vacation with his parents. We had a blast, and the Caymans may just be one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen (none of these photos have been edited at all). We swam, snorkeled, relaxed on the beach, and swam with STINGRAYS (bottom photo). It was definitely a vacation to remember!
