Confession: I'm one of the few people that live in Arizona that I know that already owns rain boots, from spending a very rainy semester at college in Texas, but if I were to buy rain boots again, I'd love to have Hunter boots. Yes, they are really expensive, but if I lived somewhere where I had to wear rain boots often, I think I'd splurge for this pair from Bloomindale's, $125. They apparently are very comfortable, and last forever, and I adore the red- it would be so cheery to look down at your feet and see these cuties!
If you watched Gossip Girl this week, you probably know where my inspiration for this next item comes from. During the episode, Serena and Blair had these perfect, 70s style, clear bubble umbrellas. I tracked down this version, and for only $15, it will keep you totally dry and looking fun!
Obviously, the perfect rain ensemble would be worthless without a great raincoat (let's be honest: an umbrella alone doesn't keep out all the water). I found this version, $85, at American Apparel. I think it is a great alternative to a trench coat, and would be perfect for casual weekend outings. It comes in a variety of colors- I'd probably go for the mocha color, but this kelly green is fun, too!
So, what do you wear on rainy days?

I need some Hunters! They are the perfect festival shoe. :)

Love your picks. I live in a city where it rains practically 9 months of the year. Can you believe I don't have rainboots or a waterproof coat? I get by with waterproof leather boots and a mini umbrella. :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent choices! I especially love that umbrella. Thanks for sharing the links!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks! I love the clear umbrella too - so old school!
ReplyDeleteThank you guys!
ReplyDeleteThe umbrella is super cute! Another great rainy day essential, for those of us who have hair susceptible to the frizzies, is a chunky knit hat. Rainy days are about the only day I have an excuse to wear one - they're warm, cute and they cover up bad hair days :)

I have been wanting a pair of hunter boots for so long, maybe this is the year for me to finally make the purchase. You would think living in SF where it rains often I would already own a pair of rainboots!
ReplyDeleteCute :)
ReplyDeleteI wear waterproof trench coats and a flowery raincoat I just purchased this year! I haven't bothered buying rainboots because...well...it was a requirement to wear them as a kid and I never liked them much. Now i just wear patent boots or leather boots that I'm not afraid to get wet.

Ah my blogger friend Brooke at www.jbblog.com lives in Arizona too and she said it was madness when it rained the other day! & I think she's originally from the Pacific Northwest so that says something!!
ReplyDeleteIt hailed the other day in NYC, but luckily I was in the comfort of my own apartment!
LL Bean duck shoes. A much more masculine and rugged option for men, and also considered prep staples.
ReplyDeleteClear bubble umbrellas are dirt cheap here in Japan. Like three bucks. Paying $15 would be way overkill to me..
Gasp. I've been looking for clear umbrellas a la GG since forever! Okay, since that episode but details details. Where are they from?

@Pamela- I couldn't find a link to a brick and mortar store, so this version is from Factory Direct Purses.com (You can click the link in the description).
ReplyDeleteWell I live in wales, where it more or less rains all the time. I do own Wellies/rainboots but mine are for Breast Cancer Research so are black with hearts and breast cancer ribbons on them. But to be honest people in Wales just deal with the rain. We grab a brolly and brave it, as we are so used to it. I own a lightish ski jacket that gets used if is a real down pour and every household will be stashed with many many umbrellas. I love your choices though.
ReplyDeleteHah! You are sooooo right about people updating their status about the rain like crazy when it rains around here. Too funny. People act like glass is falling from the sky!
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of black and white checkered rain boots that I love!!! They even have a yellow buckle across the top...Just wish it would rain!
