Guy Style Guide: Fall

Last weekend, I was hanging out with some of my guy friends, and they were asking me for advice on what to wear. For work, most of them wear dress clothes or suits, so it was a more casual look that they were after, without spending a bundle to look good. I've compiled a list of seven pieces to round out every man's closet for fall weekends. Some are splurges, and some are steals!

First, the absolute non-negotiable item every man needs: perfectly fitting jeans. Good jeans can last for years, so these Citizen jeans are worth the money. Hint: go to Nordstrom Rack, or other discount stores to score high-end denim at lower prices. Keep it simple with a straight leg, dark wash, and minimal pocket details.

To look a little more pulled together, ditch the flip flops, and try these Jack Purcell sneakers, $60, at Nordstrom (and almost every other shoe store in the world) on for size. The gray garment-dyed fabric looks fresh, and they are comfortable, to boot!
Every guy should have a few plaid shirts in rotation. This option, $50, at Gap, is super soft, and you will get tons of wear out of this! Note: Gap always has new stuff going on sale, so there is no reason to pay full price, and you can buy a plaid shirt almost anywhere.

These V-neck sweaters from Old Navy are a steal at only $20, and would be a great alternative for your college sweatshirt when you are a little chilly.

When the weather dips more, this utility jacket, $98 from the Gap, is the perfect choice for crisp fall days. All of the pockets make this a functional piece, too, and you won't have to carry anything!

For the days when you have to tote books and your laptop across campus, this Bowery messenger bag, $98 from J. Crew is a masculine take on the messenger, and is sturdy enough to carry all of your essentials.

My last essential is a watch. This Timex for J. Crew  is definitely too casual to wear with a suit, but is perfect for the weekends. It is a classic piece with a twist, and I'm loving the bold face.

Did I miss any man musts? What do the guys in your life wear on weekends?
