Cowboy Down

When out shopping the other day, I noticed an interesting footwear trend. In nearly every shop I went into, I spotted ankle-height, flat cowboy boots. A couple days later, I'm still sorting out how I feel exactly about this trend. While it might not be for me, I think certain girls (especially ones with longer legs than yours truly) could totally rock it. I think paired with the right dress or pair of skinny jeans, these could be a fun alternative to a ballet flat. Here are a few of my picks:

First, if you're looking to get in on this trend without breaking the bank, the Vestted boot, $99, by Steve Madden will do the trick. It comes in cognac and grey, but I'm digging the black version. If you're uncertain about these, I'd pair them with black skinny jeans- you'll definitely be making a statement, but less obviously so.

If you  want a little more detail on the boot, try this Corso Como pair on for size. At $190 at Piperlime, they aren't a steal, but they have such a gorgeous color and I love the buckle and wraparound cord. I think these would look great with a floaty dress, tights, and a military jacket for fall, and would definitely work into spring, too.

Looking to splurge, and want something slightly more sophisticated? This VPL cut off boot at Barney's New York, $545, is made out of buttery soft leather, and is a sleeker take on this style. I like how they kept the stacked heel of a cowboy boot, but simplified the design.

Are you a fan of this trend? How would you style these shortie boots?

  1. I'd wear the 3rd ones with sheer tights and little floral dresses. ADORABLE.

    Love Grace.

  2. For reasonably priced boots, Forever 21 has several pairs that look similar and so does Charlotte Russe.
Just in case the $545 price tag is a bit daunting :-)

  3. Grace- that would be so cute!

Leigh- After I wrote this post, I saw those at F21- definitely a more palatable amount to spend on something so trendy! Thanks for the tip!
